This was quite the interesting and different beer. Pours dark brown with a crimson hue and has a smallish tan head. The aroma is quite nutty with chocolate, mild oak, saison-ish yeast, caramel / toffee and some breadiness - really nice. It has a light body that is fairly smooth with a modest amount of carbonation. The flavor starts off with spiciness, earthiness, funk yeast, dry breadiness, oak, and smooth toasty malt. The finish has dry earthy herbal elements added. There is some anise as it warms along with some sourness. Really nice.

On tap at brewery. Pours dark brown with fizzy, fast fading tan head. Aroma is acidic with a touch of funk and subtle toasted grain, very subtle hint of oak. Flavor is much the same as well as dry and tart. Light body with fizzy carbonation. Overall, tasty, fun brew!

On tap at the Draught House 43rd Anniversary Party. The beer pours a hazy brown color with no head. The beer appears to be completely flat. The aroma is very nice. I get a lot of tart cherries, as well as some oak, vanilla and a little bit of toasted malt. One thing is certain, this is a completely different animal than the other versions of this base beer. The flavor is very tart. I get a lot of sour cherries, as well as some light funk and some tart, red wine notes. There is also a nice oak and vanilla component and a little bit of malt. The sourness is about medium and makes the beer very enjoyable and very easy to drink. Medium mouthfeel and no carbonation. My only complaint is that I wish the beer was carbonated. Other than that, it was outstanding.
