COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is now retired. All bottles from Batch 16 onward should be rated under the new Farmhouse Black Metal entry as they are brewed using a wild yeast blend, not the French Saison yeast used in the original Farmhouse Black Metal.

English Imperial Stout meets the Franco-Belgian Farmhouse tradition in this dry, drinkable beer; Pitch black in color with notes of chocolate, roasted and black malts coupled with earthy, peppery and floral farmhouse esters.

Note: This Farmhouse version replaced the original Black Metal Imperial Stout when Jester King switched to a farmhouse yeast for all beers. The original bottles feature a small Jester King sticker on the neck; newer bottles do not have this sticker and say "Farmhouse" in small print on the label.

750ml split between 3 of us. A - Pours a heavy metal black, with 2 fingers of espresso frappa head. Rounded patterns of vertical lacing. S - Rich and roasted black malts, dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, berry fruit, allspice, nutmeg, unknown spice. T - Dense and creamy chocolate, almost astringent, heavy roast, acidic coffee, raspberries, star anise, charred vanilla, spicy hops. The Belgian yeast is present but mellow. M - Moderate carbonation cuts through the density lifting the body creating a super creamy feel and light/medium body Black metal is a good name for this brew. The Belgian yeast takes a back seat to the full on stout components. Lots of chocolate and roast. Light feel for such a big brew. Serving type: bottle 04-09-2013

(Jester King Black Metal Farmhouse Imperial Stout ) Bottle 750 ml at home, batch #13, March 2013. Served into a snifter, ABV 9.3% Pitch black coloured body with a tall and very thick dark brown head on top, with excellent retention. Nice aroma with roasted malts, milky and dark chocolate, light funk. Great taste, lots of roasted malts, coal, some chocolate, ash, only a hint of funk, well hidden alcohol. Medium thick body, nicely carbonated, quite dry on the palate. Very tasty and dangerously drinkable, also so much better than the one I had almost a year ago (batch 16+).

Boise Imperial Stout Tasting. Brown pour with a thin ring of light brown head. Nose is roasty and dark chocolate, light hints of the farmhouse yeast. Flavor is sweet and mild bitters, sort of floral and earthy. Enough dark chocolate and roast to add some robustness to the brew. Goes well with the yeast.

Black color with brown head. Aroma has tart and roasty notes with a bit of caramel. Taste starts tart with dark fruit notes, roasted malts and a bit of coffee on the finish. Medium body and carbonation. Really nice combination of tart flavors and roastiness.

2013 batch bottle, poured a deep black colour with a two finger tanned head. Nose is fairly sweet instead of farmhouse, maybe because of the age? Who knows. Lots of dominant chocolate in the nose, sweeter toasted malts. Raisins, good amount of red fruits when it opens. Graham cracker dryness, slight yeast finish. Nice basic stout

Pitch black body with a brown head that settles as a fully lasting layer, good lacing. Quite strong aroma of dark roasted malt, coffee, faint fruits, well-hidden tartness, hints of leather and a light sour background. Strong flavour of dark caramel, coffee and dark roasted malt. Acidic and tart fruits in the back and funky hints. Moderate sweet, light sour and moderate bitter taste. A very special imperial stout!
[75 cl bottle, shared with Svensenga smak & behag (while listening to Norwegian black metal), from Vinmonopolet Vika]
