COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Metal Imperial Stout, a.k.a. Suds of Northern Darkness, a.k.a. Iron Sword, a.k.a. El Martillo del Muerte. Black Metal is a cruel and punishing beer fermented by the sheer force of its awesome will. We are pretty sure that Kreator wrote the song “Impossible Brutality” about this beer while drinking it during their Extreme Aggression Tour.

Bottle at share at Sybarite Pig. Very dark opaque pour with very dark brown head. Chocolate and coffee on the nose. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, and roasted malts. Lots of carbonation. Dry finish.

Batch #12, Feb 2013. (9.3% and 44IBU). Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipates fairly quickly. dark fruits, roast, chocolate, barnyard, smoke, licorice, heavy alcohol. surprisingly bitter for 44IBU, lightly sweet. full body, but oddly thin feel, lively carbonation for the style. I’d bet this would improve a lot with some age to mellow out some of the harsher notes. I’m not sure if this is typical for the beer or a peculiarity of this batch, but carbonation is fairly high and it feels way too thin.

Bottle, 75cl. A black one, topped by a big, dark tan head. Roasted aroma with chocolate, molasses and some boozy notes. A little vegetal hint too. Lightly farmhousish flavor with roasted malts, chocolated and some molasses. Full body, soft carbonation. Quite bitter in the finish. A nice imperial stout, yet it lacks quite a bit to be world class, but I’m struggling a bit to pinpoint what. 120914

Non-farmhouse from 2010, but gushed like there's no tomorrow. Nice aroma with English yeast and roasted malt. Bready, sweet in the middle, caramely, roasty, really damn good. It definitely wasn't this good fresh. Wish I had another.

Bottle - Pours black with a dark tan head. Nose is boozy with dry roasty malt. A little sweeter taste with dry roasty malt, charcoal, and a bit of molasses. Thinnish and a bit of carbonation. Pretty meh.

A chocolatey smell up front with a lot of hoppy flavor on the tongue. A creamy head and deep black color. No light penetrates. Not as thick as it appears to be, but a colorful palate and goes down smooth. Excellent beer all around.

Bottle from South Bay Liquor: Smell is a rich and robust profile of roasted black malt with dark melted chocolate, chocolate syrup, and a minor aroma of mocha. The drink is smooth yet bold of flavor while masking the high alcohol content well. Flavors hint to a bitter and unsweet dark chocolate with a background of ground coffee bean. As for the finish, sort of brings out a sour aftertaste though.

OG Black Metal, not sure on the bottle date Poured motor oil black. The aroma was definitely the worst part. as It had a bit of a green apple smell to it. Taste however, held up extremely well. Nice forward roast but nothing over powering, still had a nice thick mouthfeel as well. I opened this side by side with a farmhouse Black Metal and the OG was so much better. I wish they would still brew it.

Jet black pour with a tan head. Aroma’s of coffee, chocolate, raisins. Taste is a full bodied stout with an amazing malt bill that just dances on the tongue with a long malty chocolaty and slightly smokey flavor.

Deep black pour with a tan head. Aroma is coffee, dark fruit, caramelized burned sugar. Vinous, chocolate and booze. Flavor is boozy, roasty, caramelized sugar, coffee, and dark chocolate. A little high on the alcoholic warmth. Good beer though.
