3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared by my buddy Ryan while waiting for some charcoals to heat up. Pours light hazy golden orange. Nose shows lots of pineapple and brett. Some wood and guava and bready yeast. Funky lacto. Didn’t really get any whiskey action, but it’s certainly aged in wood. A bit sweeter at times when continuing tartness would be preferred, but still damn good, especially given the 4.5% abv.

Bottle to glass. Batch 15 - 2/25/14. Pours a hazy light yellow with champagne like white head. Aroma is funky, with yeast and tart notes. Hops come through a bit with some tropical fruit, peaches. Smells delicious. Taste is lightly tart, slight vinegar, slight salinity. Funky. Some citrus, slight grass. Lightly fruity. No real bitterness. Very smooth. Palate is light body, heavy carbonation. Overall this was a fantastic beer, not overly sour but what tartness is present lingers on the palate. Would be great on a hot day. Well done.

750ml bottle from the brewery via Anthony at a brew night. Pours hazy yellow, no head. Light sour aromas, spice, lemon, hint of the oak. Taste is complex, lots going on, whilst also refreshing. Lovely stuff.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A- Citrus, wheat, yeasty, tart, funk.
A- Very pale yellow color, hazy liquid, white head.
T- Vinegar, citrus, sour, tart, funk, yeasty, pickles, sweet, slightly bitter.
P- Light body, crisp texture, medium carbonation, tart finish.
O- My first sour and what an experience it was. Not as sour as I was expecting it to be however. I couldn’t tell that it was aged in oak or whiskey barrels at all but that really doesn’t seem to matter. This beer has a vinegar and tart citrus taste that works quite well and finishes with a lingering dill pickle flavor. Very odd and unique but nothing less would be expected from Jester King. Already looking forward to trying my next sour.

It’s remarkable when you can find a beer that has a huge richness of flavor but doesn’t have a lot of alcohol. Das Wunderkind hearkens back to the Belgian ales of yore, a time when lively yellow ales like this one were brewed for hydration as well as enjoyment. Smelling of funky, fruity esters, Das Wunderkind alerts the nose of the yeasty properties of this beer. On the tongue, the ale has a sour bite like vinegar and citrus rolled into one. The finish is smooth and satisfying. Known for their delicious oddball concoctions, Jester King clearly has what it takes to work with these strange yeast strains. Though not easy to find these days, Das Wunderkind is definitely worth seeking out.

Bottle @ tasting, courtesy of me, thnx to Secret Santa for this one! Pours a hazy golden beer with a small white head on top. Aroma is slightly peppery, spicy Belgian saison yeast, some tartness in there and a crisp fruity note as well. Flavor is fairly bready, again loads of yeast present, some dried fruits and a peppery aftertaste. Decent take on the saison style, with a nice JK twist to it. Very nice surprise.
