2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 rxeight (434) - Illinois, USA - MAY 17, 2013
Not a fan at all. Way too much belgian yeast. None of the stout malts come through. Too much carbonation and the body is too light.

750 ml bottle from trade with crajun. Pours pitch black with an obnoxiously big head but it fades pretty quickly and never completely goes away. Love the appearance. Aroma is deep roasted malt, black licorice, coffee, flowers, and light chocolate. Taste is fairly intense. Deep roasted malt, even a little burnt or ashy. Black licorice is big here too. Light notes of coffee and flowers, very little chocolate. Mouthfeel is odd, a little chalky and fizzy, medium to thick body. Finish is smooth, roasted coffee and flowers linger. Overall, an interesting imperial stout, some things I like and some I don’t. I’m not big on black licorice and the mouthfeel is odd. Still pretty solid though.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 hawthorne00 (1860) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAY 6, 2013
Bottle. Black with a tan head that fades to a half inch and then to the rim. Aroma of licorice, coffee, chocolate, light floral and peppery notes that seem to float above the rest. That makes for a charming aroma, but when it continues in the mouth it’s disconcerting. There’s a biggish stout that’s pleasant if blandish with mocha, dark fudge and a peppery bitter bite overlaid with a somehow separate floral/ herbal and light barnyard touch. The flavours never mesh at all really but it’s somehow not a car crash. Intriguing.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 alexsdad06 (3043) - Ohio, USA - APR 1, 2013
750 ml bottle. Pours black with a creamy tan head. The aroma has creamy cocoa, milk chocolate, roast moving to char with a hint of herbal notes. The flavor has a big roasted malt component, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, herbal with some funk and bitterness to the finish.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Metallion66 (26) - - MAR 30, 2013
Opened side by side with an OG black metal. The roasty taste was much more over powering than the OG Black Metal, which and also had a much more thin mouthfeel. Still a decent beer, but I wish they would bring back the OG.

Bottle. Dark brown pour with a tan head. This version has a different layer with fruity almost jam like undercurrents. A little dryer, with muted dark chocolates and caramel notes. In my opinion much improved from the original version..
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 alcaponejunior (349) - Texas, USA - MAR 10, 2013
Black and diesel-oil consistency, big brown head and sparse lace.
Nice aroma, burnt and darkly roasty, coffee and dark chocolate, a little bit of dark fruit.
Flavor is wonderful, roasty and burnt flavors are up front, then comes just a touch of dark fruitiness, then chocolate and coffee.
There’s a bit of a Belgian note to it, presumably from the yeast, which actually seems to lighten the body just a touch. Although full bodied, I find it surprisingly drinkable.
Definitely a tasty one, RIS and farmhouse ale lovers alike might enjoy this beer.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Dfonorow (716) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 7, 2013
Jet black with a huge highly carbonated head that fades quickly into a small tan ring. Aroma of roasted malts, spice, funky barnyard, and coffee. Really strange. Flavor is smooth at first with notes of roasted dry coffee and dark chocolate, but transitions into a strange horse blanket/sour finish. I applaud them for trying, but this is just weird.
