This beer is now retired. All bottles from Batch 16 onward should be rated under the new Farmhouse Black Metal entry as they are brewed using a wild yeast blend, not the French Saison yeast used in the original Farmhouse Black Metal.

English Imperial Stout meets the Franco-Belgian Farmhouse tradition in this dry, drinkable beer; Pitch black in color with notes of chocolate, roasted and black malts coupled with earthy, peppery and floral farmhouse esters.

Note: This Farmhouse version replaced the original Black Metal Imperial Stout when Jester King switched to a farmhouse yeast for all beers. The original bottles feature a small Jester King sticker on the neck; newer bottles do not have this sticker and say "Farmhouse" in small print on the label.

Bottle shared with a friend. Yes I do have one :-) Poured a deep mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is molasses, rich boozy alcohol. The flavour is strong bitter with a rich peaty earthy alcoholic, coffee, dark chocolate, liqourice bitter palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: Pitch black with a brown head. Aroma hops, roast, chocolate... Flavour dark chocolate, liquorice, roast, bitters, herbal roast, nice! Aftertaste is bitter, spicy, roast, dark chocolate. Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, close to full body. Delicious no nonesense stout!

When I opened the bottle it was like open the seventh gate to hell, as there was a lot of pressure, and the room was filled with a lovely, roasty mindnumbing smell. The bootle oozes from bitterness and evil, but I also catch a fresh and alert smell. This baby just can’t wait to land a dirty blastbeat on your tongue. The taste is reminiscent of the Swedish beverage "Julmust", which don’t make sense to you if you are not Swedish, but sligthly behind there is classic stout flavors coming along, roasted malts, a little coffe, chocolate bitterness but also a hint of salty liquorice. The aftertaste is semi-dry and a little sour (I guess from the farmhouse yeast) and it is quite refreshing.

Big deep dark brown almost black head. Body is opaque dark, like the soul of a satan rocker. Earthy roasty chocolatey aroma, quite dense, with soot and wild berry notes, and possibly traces of something funky. Sweet roasty sooty chocolatey taste with fruity wild berry and bubblegum notes. Full-bodied. Soft and kind of flat mouthfeel, with a hot, almost burning sensation. Sweetish, and faintly acidic, roasty earthy burnt aftertaste with alcoholic coffee notes. The burnt alcoholic mineraly finish lingers for a long time. Well. This is not a session beer, that’s for sure. And it’s certainly complex. (0.75l bottle, from wine monopoly, Vika, Oslo.)

Bottle pour. Pours a thick, inky black. Khaki head of foam with excellent retention. The aroma is roasty, peppery, spicy, molasses, nuts. The taste is sweet and spicy. Thick mouthfeel and moderate carbonation.

Bottle, batch 15. Pours pitch black with an enormous chocolate coloured head. Aroma is malt with tobacco, chocolate, wooden barrels and a nice funkiness. Velvety creamy body with very soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet and malty with cocoa, leather and oak barrels, as well as some dark fruity yeast funk.

Honestly, even though there is a whole nother sour version of this, one could consider this a sour stout. tart and peppery aroma, atop layers of roasted malt, dark fruit, licorice, alcohol... Good enough and intriguing enough to make me really want to try the regular...which ironicaly, i thought this was. "

Bottle. Opaque black beer with a large brown head. Aroma is malty with notes of caramel, coffee, spices, red berries and herbs. Flavor is malty with notes of caramel, toffee, herbs, citrus, coffee and spices. Wow, super balanced beer.
