4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Suttree (4444) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - DEC 26, 2012
Black, dense brown head. Smells like coffee, prune, dark chocolate and black pepper. Nice thick, rich palate. I get a lot of coffee and prune, but also dry, woody flavors like cedar. Plus some black pepper, too. Dry, woody finish. Thanks to rougeau13 for the trade!

750 ml bottle to taster (side-by-side the Funk Metal). Looks good; black with ample mocha head and lively carbonation. Smells solid; malty with roast and a little spice. Tastes good! Like it smells with chocolate notes. Nice on the palate too. Impressive!
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 sjohnny (252) - - DEC 17, 2012
Malty coffee aroma. Pours black with a dark brown head that sticks around forever. Caramel and molasses sweetness. Roasty. Slight bitterness and a hint of sour.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 phaleslu (4427) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 8, 2012
Draft sample at the brewery. Pours a deep opaque brown with a small beige head. Aroma of rich chocolate, roast, earthy funk, mild peppery spice, wood, and nuts. Flavor is equally rich and chocolaty. Medium-full bodied, with moderate carbonation and a rich, funky, sweet, and roasty mouthfeel. I’d give the slight edge to the earlier version but it’s been a while. Still very good.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 Cwrw42 (20) - Denver, Colorado, USA - NOV 25, 2012
WOW! Not for the, this faint of heart, this stout doesn’t pour it oozes into the glass like oil filling the glass with a dense black liquid topped with a dark dense head. The initial aroma is reminiscent of soy sauce but its full of roasted malt character and complexity. For its size this stout drinks very easily with a full pallette and rich maltiness. Hops are present but only enough to balance but not detract from the stunning malt profile.
I picked up a couple of other beers from Jester King on a trip to Austin earlier this summer and now I am eagerly looking forward to tasting them.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 LtDan (1676) - Los Angeles County, California, USA - NOV 24, 2012
Appearance: Pours a dark brown with a subsided tan head.
Aroma: Roasted dark malt, coffee, mineral.
Taste: Burnt roast, dark chocolate, black coffee, peppery hops, finishes burnt roasty.
Mouthfeel: Rough lively carb. Full bodied.
Overall: I was amazed at how much changing the yeast changed this particular beer. I think I like the original better, but by no means is this inferior.

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2012 take a really nice beer, loose control of the yeast in your brewhouse, sell it even though you messed it up, and then sell it as a new product... and you have this beer....
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 davey101 (489) - Connecticut, USA - NOV 8, 2012
750 ml bottle into a tulip. Thanks a ton to gtermi for the bottle! Opening causing an initial gush.
A - Pours a pitch black body with an insane amount of dense mocha foam.
S - Crazy blast of farmhouse yeast. Sour and lactic acid, cherries, and spices. On the end is some light roast and intense coffee. One of the most interesting stout aromas.
T - Sour cherries, super bitter coffee beans, milk chocolate and roasted malts, coriander and spices. Becomes a bit too "mineraly" towards the end, but this is very unique and flavorful. Mouth feel is super creamy and silky, a swish in the mouth cause sit to foam up.
O - A very unique and delicious stout. Despite the mediocre reviews I really like this beer. Belgian yeast notes intertwined with traditional stout notes. Awesome stuff!
