COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English Imperial Stout meets the Franco-Belgian Farmhouse tradition in this dry, drinkable beer; Pitch black in color with notes of chocolate, roasted and black malts coupled with earthy, peppery and floral farmhouse esters.

Note: This Farmhouse version replaced the original Black Metal Imperial Stout when Jester King switched to a farmhouse yeast for all beers. The original bottles feature a small Jester King sticker on the neck; newer bottles do not have this sticker and say "Farmhouse" in small print on the label.

(Bottle, 0.75 l - Batch #15, Aug 27 2013, at Kitty’s, 20140104) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and light brown. Aroma had vanilla, mild sourness, roasted malts and wood. Palate was full bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were wood, vanilla, roasted malts, mild sourness, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was roasty, woody, sour and bitter. Not bad but somewhat confusing.

750 ml bottle @ Malja, Kuopio. Rated on 26.12.2013.
Pours a black colour with a chunky tan head. Aroma of farmyard, chocolate and wet wool. Flavour of roasted malts, rich dark fruitiness, farmyard, earthiness and some smoky chipotle-like vegetable notes. Medium bodied, smooth mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Finishes roasty and a bit yeasty. The vegetable-like notes don’t quite fit in that well, but still a decent beer.

Pours pitch black with a smooth white head. Aroma of roasted malts, hints of yeast, licorice, spices and dark chocolate. Taste is smooth, slightly roasty and funky yeasty with earthy notes and some licorice, cocoa and dark chocolate. Finish is sweetish, roasty and spicy with notes of funky yeast, dark chocolate and ripe fruits. Okay Belgian style IS.

750 ml bottle from The Beer Trappe. Huge pour. Black. Coffee and chocolate with cocoa powder finish but a slightly saison like aroma mixed in. Taste and body is not too heavy, though there is body here.

Pitch black pour with a thick layer or deep tan head and sticky lacing ... absolutely gorgeous brew .... aroma of cocoa, roasted and black malts, light coffee with a definite farmhouse yeast to it as well when first opened .... taste is of roasted, coffee and chocolatey malts, dark malts, earthy and slight farmhouse yeast detected .... dry and oily in the mouthfeel with a dry cocoa and nice bitter peppery bite in the finish .... very tasty stuff

Served in a Duvel tulip glass at 60-65 degrees. Deep black pour, creamy tan head. Pronounced aromas of bakers chocolate, heavy roasted grain, and roast coffee, intermingled with hints of sourdough bread/yeast and a subtle, dried dark fruit vinous note. Mouthfeel is full, with a fine, creamy carbonation and subtle, raw tartness. Similar flavors of dark, semi-sweet chocolate, heavy roasted malt, and hints of dark fruit linger on a long, dry and mouthwatering finish. A solid standard offering from Jester King. --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...
