COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English Imperial Stout meets the Franco-Belgian Farmhouse tradition in this dry, drinkable beer; Pitch black in color with notes of chocolate, roasted and black malts coupled with earthy, peppery and floral farmhouse esters.

Note: This Farmhouse version replaced the original Black Metal Imperial Stout when Jester King switched to a farmhouse yeast for all beers. The original bottles feature a small Jester King sticker on the neck; newer bottles do not have this sticker and say "Farmhouse" in small print on the label.

Bottle. Poured black with a low tan head. Aromas of malted chocolate and coffee. The malt is really nice and smooth dark chocolate. Earthy notes throughout.

Ar: roasty, alcohol, smoke, licorice, soy sauce, leather, chocolate, floral, some yeastiness in the finish, very rich. Ap: black colour, big Brown head, lacing. T: rich as sin, big bite, fat maltbase, salty, roasty, alcohol, astringent, this is true black metal! P: fullbodied, lively carbonation, salty, roasty bitter and warming finish. O: those who are about to rock, we salute you!

750 ml bottle. Opaque black with rich and lasting mocca head. Aroma wonderful, dark chocolate, coffee, peppery notes and some herbs. Taste is leather, coffee, dark chocolate, roasted, liquorice and alcohol with clear tangy notes, especially late in the flavor. Really nice beer.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, dark thick black pour with big dark brown head, aroma brought notes of dark fruit, slight acidic red fruits, hints of dark chocolate, baker’s chocolate, roasted malt, not much in the aroma. Taste is better, nice dark chocolate, roast, coffee notes into a bit of dark fruit, some slightly acidic malt, spice, finishing fairly bitter, slightly sweet.

2012 vintage 750 ml bottle, thanks to Phatdog1. Dark black with incredible tan head with great retention. Nose is strong roasted malt with a nice Belgian yeast funk. Taste is rich dark chocolate, espresso bean, light vanilla, earthy funky yeast. Subtle funk. Secondary fruitiness and residual sugars. Mouthfeel has a creamy texture. Great stout to sip.

Shared at a small tasting. Enjoyed in a snifter, 2012 vintage and 75CL split 4 ways.

A - Pitch black, oily and nice 2 finger coffee coloured head.

S - Smells very nice. You get a standard stout of coffee, chocolate and roasted coffee. Green pepper nose and the farmhouse yeast adds a belgian orval nose to it

T - Taste is pretty standard. There’s licorice, smoke, chocolate and dry oaky notes. The flavor is spicy, bread and sadly the two styles just don’t meld too well

M - Big body, sticky flavors that hang out for a long time. Creamy and heavy carbonation

O - Good beer, the original I still think is better than this one.

Grymt skum som är det svartaste jag sett. Tydlig rostad ton, kaffe, och i ytterkanten en doft av salt hav och diesel. Underbar.

Bottled from Systembolaget Pitch black with a huge, brown head. Juniper-berries and a lot of roasted maltiness in the aroma. Chocolate and coffee in the flavour along with sourish notes. Light and fresh with a light to medium bitterness.

Black enough, thin beige film of head stays long. Sweet aroma has some bitterness also, licorice, bit milky notes, some coffee, medical herbs, dark ripe fruits. Full body and feel, bit oily, roasted bitter, french roast coffee, long roasted finish, potent carbonation, milk chocolate, sweetness nicely balanced by roasted bitterness and carbonation. More like smooth liquid black metal, good balance, flavors and character. Not that aggressive, more nuanced and pure. Good job!

75 cl bottle @ home. Pours black with a little sediment and a tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma and flavour are roasted malt, chocolate, liquorice, and a little funk - with a bitter finish.
