Crazy strange style which is tart and smokey at the same time. Good for what it is but comes off a bit disjointed. Dont get much of the odd flavors that are added not that i know what sweet gale tastes like.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a hazy gold with a thick, foamy white head and lacing. It has an aroma of smoke and malt. The flavor is light smoke and malt up front with a medium malt backbone and slightly sweet and sour finish over a medium body.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750 ml bottle - kindly shared by Dennoman, sampled with FX Cannelle and Romain VeryNiceGuy at the pre-BBF13 tasting. Pours hazy light yellow with a soapy steady head. Aromas of smoked bacon, some sunflower buttery tohc, floral notes and lime. Lots of carbonation prickling in the nose. Light medium body, sweet and a light bitter finish. Pecullar beer; light and drinkable but a tad too much sweetness for the body of the beer; 4th and 5th sip are leass agreeable than the first ones.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle in hotel Tulip Bodegraven. Hazy gold colour lasting white head. Smokey aroma. It’s got some ok pale malt and then more smoke on the finish. Never too much though. Decent I thought.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
My Bottom Line :
Wooden smoke, yellow pear esters and bay leaves ride this brew’s excited effervescence, leading to a bubbly, yeasty and smoky finish.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam sits atop the misty gold.
-This is basically halfway between a Saison and the Gotlandsdricka I had years ago. Carbonation is through the roof (Saison-like), yeast character is rather expressive (Saison-like), but the flavors imparted by the rest of the ingredients are reminiscent of that Gotlandsdricka (salient wooden smoke, rye, fruity leaves, etc.)
-The only other beer I can think of which is similar to this one is Hopfenstark’s Boson de Higgs.
-The very high levels of carbonation get in the way of the finish, washing away most of the complexities.
