2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pour on tap at the Denver Rare Beer Tasting 2012, hazy yellow orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of spice with clove, coriander, some lemon, smoked malts come in, hints of juniper, slight herbal note, pretty odd. Taste is a mix of sweet fruit, lemon, hints of smoked malts, touch of biscuit, bread, slight herbal and juniper coming in to give a pine-sol almost note, finishing kind of sweet and herbal. Didn’t quite work for me.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours hazy golden with a moderate white head. Aroma is lightly smoked malt and bit of farmhouse yeast. Flavor is tart and vinous, with smoked malt, yeast, juniper, and some other notes I can’t quite identify. Pretty interesting, and more than "just" a smoked beer, but perhaps a bit harsh in a hard-to-define sense: it almost works for me but doesn’t quite hold together somehow. Nonetheless, it’s worth a try.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
I really like some smoke malted beers but disappointed in most. This beer is very pleasant the smell matches its taste. The aroma I get smoke and a soured or tart smell. Taste is great I still get the smoke on the palate with a tart berry flavor with spices such as pepper and cinnamon. Over all this is a light flavorful season beer and very well done.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bright barnyard yeast in the nose, supported by smokey malts. Honestly not *that* smokey on the palate; it's too mild and fizzy for me though. Smoked beer is arguably my least favorite style, so the fact that I can even drink this is a testament to its balance. More boring than offensive.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: APR 8, 2013 I wasn’t really sure what to think of this. Pours a dark gold color with a small head. The aroma is full of smoke and ash. The flavor is similar at first, with a lot of charred notes coming through. However, I also get some nice wheat as well as a hint of fruit and yeast. A nice smoked beer that has more to offer than simply smoke. Glad I got to try it.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance: brassy, deep gold with a big ol’ fluffy white head. Aroma: some smoke right up front, over a slightly funky, earthy yeast, and a dollop of honeycomb. Taste: some woody, smoky and nearly lager-ish crackery malts up front, with notes of apples, grapes, honey, and some earthy, flowery notes that are probably juniper. Finish: gentle lingering smokiness, almost like scotch, but without the burn, then a chalky-dry mouth with some herbal bitterness. Notes: Wow, what a weird beer. Not great per se, but very, very interesting. Have to give these guys credit for trying something this out there, and I’m glad I had it. Bottle from the Rare Beer Club.
