Gotlandsdricka, meaning “Drink of the Good Land”, is believed to have been the beer of the Vikings. Our rendition of this ancient style is inspired by the traditional farmhouse ales once brewed on the island of Gotland off the coast of Sweden. Gotlandsdricka (6.6% alcohol by volume) is brewed with birchwood smoked malt, juniper and sweet gale. It’s unfiltered, unpasteurized and naturally carbonated through re-fermentation in the bottle.

Very lively carbonation. This beer comes across almost as a smoked beer to me. The flavor is quite initially smoked the base beer seems to be a golden ale. Pretty enjoyab lower abv ale.

Pours hazy pale yellow with a large bright white head. Smells a little like wheat and herbals herbal. Taste is herbal and otherwise a little sweet and bitter. Medium-bodied with a slick texture and mildly fizzy mouth-carbonation, Jester King Gotlandsdricka finishes with an herbal tingle.

24 oz. bottle shared by johnnyramirez. It pours a light yellow color with a big white head. The aroma has some mild juniper and wheat. The flavor has wheat, spice and a hint of smoke near the finish. Nicely done.

Cask draft to snifter. Subdued aroma of smokey herbs. No carbonation and no head. Looks like grapefruit juice. Tasted a bit of old tire, but it really grew on me as I sipped it. A very unique beer; I appreciated what the brewer did with it.

Bottle. Pours cloudy yellow with fizzy white head. Aroma if smoke with some farmhouse and hay notes with. Touch of citrus. Flavor is much the same with a nice wheaty profile coming through. Light, soft mouth feel with high, fizzy carbonation. Overall, I like it!

Pour on tap at the Denver Rare Beer Tasting 2012, hazy yellow orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of spice with clove, coriander, some lemon, smoked malts come in, hints of juniper, slight herbal note, pretty odd. Taste is a mix of sweet fruit, lemon, hints of smoked malts, touch of biscuit, bread, slight herbal and juniper coming in to give a pine-sol almost note, finishing kind of sweet and herbal. Didn’t quite work for me.

Bottle. Pours hazy golden with a moderate white head. Aroma is lightly smoked malt and bit of farmhouse yeast. Flavor is tart and vinous, with smoked malt, yeast, juniper, and some other notes I can’t quite identify. Pretty interesting, and more than "just" a smoked beer, but perhaps a bit harsh in a hard-to-define sense: it almost works for me but doesn’t quite hold together somehow. Nonetheless, it’s worth a try.

I really like some smoke malted beers but disappointed in most. This beer is very pleasant the smell matches its taste. The aroma I get smoke and a soured or tart smell. Taste is great I still get the smoke on the palate with a tart berry flavor with spices such as pepper and cinnamon. Over all this is a light flavorful season beer and very well done.
