Mad Meg is simple in terms of ingredients with French pilsner malt, wheat, a touch of caramunich and acidulated malt, Czech Saaz hops and our farmhouse yeast. It is golden colored and quite strong at over 9% ABV. The palate intertwines delicate farmhouse esters with earthy, spicy hops and clean malt flavors.

Draft. The look is cloudy, orange in color, and had a nice foamy, white head. The smell is very fruity, nice, yeast, spice, and yeast. The taste is sweet and sour, orange, peels, and very yeasty.

750ml bottle from West Lakeview Liquors. Pours a cloudy, deep orange-gold colored body with an inch thick, dense, creamy and frothy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is big, soft florals with some pears and a light citrus note. A light grass and earth with a somewhat grainy, crackery, pleasant pale maltiness and slightly spicy and dry from the yeast. Flavor is similar. Fairly spicy and herbal from the yeast up front with some floral pears, grass, esters, earth, and a few citrus notes. Lightly sweetened pale malts offer a nice balance before this finishes yeasty and spicy with a moderate, grassy and earthy bitterness, some citruses, a few florals, and clean malt backing. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a softer, medium-high carbonation. Overall, a nicely done, bigger Belgian styled beer. Fairly spicy with a nice floral backing, but well balanced with a solid, lightly sweetened pale malt backing. Good beer.

Aroma is earthy, sweet and a touch of alcohol. Taste is smooth bitterness, carmelly sweet malts, alcohol and a touch of spicy belgian yeast.

Poured from bottle. Cloudy golden color, with thin white head, little lacing. Smells of rich floral notes. Perfect balance of malty and hoppy, sharp kick of orange and citrus. Nutty-almond after taste. Great beer.

A sweet floral nose with hints of yeast, spice, and a tartness. A cloudy orangish amber pour with frothy, mostly lasting, off-white head and medium lacing. There is initial hay/straw taste followed by a slight sweetness and a hint of spice and alcohol in the finish. There also seemed to be a pleasing citrus note in the mix. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Dry and quick. To me, overall, not a typical Belgion Strong Ale, but I liked it all the same. It had a Saison quality that I think would complement many different dishes.

Served in a Jester King goblet. Too much body and alcohol. Isn’t all that yeast forward either. Strange character coming from the use of Noble hops; seems like they used way too many and they didn’t last long. Not impressed with the concept or execution.

750 ml bottle shared by Dan (danielnovak3) before the Cubs vs. Sox game. Served in a Bell’s tulip. A: Quite the gusher. We lost about 30% of the beer in a little under a second. Once we got it to calm down it was poured very carefully. The pour yielded a body with a cloudy orange color with golden yellow highlights. A large pure white head formed on the pour and receded slowly leaving behind some splotchy lace. S: Big fruity esters, spiced yeast and tart citric acid all make up the nose. There is a nice wheaty malt base, but the yeast and tart smells really dominate. T: The taste is much like the nose, but is more balanced out by the malt base. The yeast is a little spicier with some light pepper corn as well. There is a creamy berry sweetness in the there as well with some fruity alcohol and a tart finish. M: Medium bodied with a creamy middle and a drying finish. Semi tart finish. O: A little too big for my liking. I like my saisons a little less chewy, but it was solid all around. I would definitely lay this guy (or girl) down for a little while. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-28-2012

Pours almost clear rusty copper with a ton of carbonation and a big head that dissipates after a few. Spicy, fruity aroma with hints of clove, black pepper, kiwi, and fennel. Spritzy medium body is very peppery with a nice malty backbone and hints of cherry and prune. Finish is spicy and dry.
