Mad Meg is simple in terms of ingredients with French pilsner malt, wheat, a touch of caramunich and acidulated malt, Czech Saaz hops and our farmhouse yeast. It is golden colored and quite strong at over 9% ABV. The palate intertwines delicate farmhouse esters with earthy, spicy hops and clean malt flavors.

Bottle 75 cl. Pours a cloudy opaque amber with some floating impurities and a huge, dense and frothy white head leaving some lacework. Sweet overripe fruit in the nose. Rich body, lowish carbonation, very fruity and yeasty with a tart edge and a very hoppy finish. An odd bird yet with loads of character. 100912

Pours a cloudy orange, almost copper, color with a tall white head. An interestingly hoppy nose to this. Lots of floral, earthy, and spicy hops with a touch of grass. A bit of citrus peel and booze and a fair amount of toffee and toasted malt aroma. The flavor is somewhat bitter despite the sweetness of the toffee. Lots of earthy and spicy hop flavors with a light floral note. Some citrus peel, a definite alcohol flavor, and lots of carbonation. Lightly funky, but it could certainly use some more.

UPDATED: NOV 1, 2012 Bottle at the Funky 8, Brooklyn, NYC. Pours hazy gold with a modest, white foam head. It’s a sweet beer with strong herbal character. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Some herbal, spicy and lightly piney bitterness offsets the malty sweetness a bit. Nicely nuanced stuff with interesting character. (3.7)

Bottle at Borefts 2012, Bodegraven. Pours cloudy gold with a fine, white cream head. Fresh nose, some dusty yeast and citrus. Medium to big sweet flavor with tons of semi-ripe orange, light yeast. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish with dough, citrus, yeast. All the strong, yeasty and citrusy Belgian beers have started to blend together at Borefts. (3.5)

Thanks a bunch, Dixonian, for this one! Nose is pepper and grapefruit with some sea water and yeast. The body was golden colored with a big white head. The last pour from the bottle was almost green from all the yeast, haha! I think the taste resembled water from a tide pool that had sat in the sun until the next high tide came. Then, someone stepped in that pool and splashed this water into your mouth. Funky, salty, citrusy, yeasty, good.

Thanks OmegaX, this was a nice brew. The body was cloudy and had lots of carbonation - at least an inch of head with each pour! Aromas were herbal and full of yeast, lemongrass and bread. The taste was spicy as well with a delicate yeast character. Undertones of grapefruit, caramel and perhaps even salt make for a most interesting brew.
