COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mad Meg is simple in terms of ingredients with French pilsner malt, wheat, a touch of caramunich and acidulated malt, Czech Saaz hops and our farmhouse yeast. It is golden colored and quite strong at over 9% ABV. The palate intertwines delicate farmhouse esters with earthy, spicy hops and clean malt flavors.

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours cloudy amber/copper with a big, lacy, off-white head. Aroma of spicy yeast, some light fruits, caramel and pale malts, plus a good amount of floral hops. Flavor about the same, with a nice blend of spice, fruits, and hops. Average texture. An interesting beer, but it could be a little better.

Bottle that has about 9 months or so on it. Hazy orangish copper pour with slightly tan head and solid retention. Nice lacing as well. Nose is biscuits, light grain, slight funkiness (not Brett though). Flavor is grainy, lightly tannic, pretzels, some bitterness, light earthiness, leaves. Nice creamy mouthfeel, decent carbonation and a dry finish. Bit of warmth from the alcohol on the end as well.

Pours a cloudy light golden color with a sticky off-white head. Apple cider, green grape, and Belgian yeast nose. A rich, nearly syrupy mouthfeel. A lot of malt of the front and on the finish. But, quite spicy in the middle. Too much so for a saison. There’s a little earthiness underlying it all. I couldn’t drink a lot of this, but I respect what they’ve done.

Bottle from Errl. The pour is a rusty gold color; looks brownish-orange in the glass, with a big fluffy off-white head with some staying power. Estery fruity aroma; peaches, apple tart, and apricot come to mind, with wild flowers and grassy herbs. The flavor uncovers a sharp alcoholic bite as I’m reminded of the relatively high abv. Tangy and sweet with fruity esters abound. There’s quite a bit of bready malt that thickens the body, with funky yeast and some spice on the back end, but it mostly comes across as an alcoholic tang. This is a good beer; it’s almost a great one. It could stand to be a touch more drinkable, for a farmhouse brew. But make no mistake, I enjoyed this one.

75cl, at 9.6%Vol, new American brew Anno 2012, from De Bierkoning Amsterdam, complex brew, spicy/fruity and slightly alcoholic/sweet, yet balanced, cloudy, rocky head, nice brew, yet expensive!

This beer couldn’t wait to get out of the bottle! As soon as the opener hit the cap it started releasing carbonation. Ah, I love happy beers. Its carbonation remains strong long after the pour and it sustains quite the thick, bubbly white head atop its clear, golden body. It has a very fresh and pleasantly doughy (very doughy aroma with a twist of straw and touches of wheat. For such a strong beer it’s very light on the nose. In the mouth it’s soft and creamy, with some really nice, musky farmhouse woodiness taking the stage. The liveliness of the beer compliments the lightness of its body and spicy wildness of its flavor. It almost reminds me of a cider and has an almost apple-like finish. There is a pretty potent, almost astringent alcoholic bite to the spiciness that makes it slightly hard to handle, but its overall pleasantness balances out its seriousness well, ending in a light-bodied and freshly flavored, yet potent, beer in the end.

From 0.75l bottle @ Borefts 2012. This is a cloudy honey colored one with a medium sized bubbly and light lacing off-white top. Nice but strange aroma. Light sweet, some really fruity white melon, perhaps a bit nutty as well and I get tones of peaches and canned soft citrus fruits. Quite hard to tear apart. The taste also has some nuts. Unfortunately the once that has gone bad. Also some boozy alcohol breaks through. It’s sweet but also well bitter. Quite mouthdrying and on the border of being medicinal astringent. Ends warming from the alcohol. Not sure what I thin about this one. No favorite. 28.09.2012

Bottle 750ml. @ The Danish Summer Gathering, TFODRBSG12, Ulfborg.

Unclear matt medium to dark orange colour with a large to huge, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, fruity, moderate to hoppy, grass, light leather - funky. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, riped fruit, fruity, yeasty, wood notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120818]

Pours amber color with a considerable foamy head. Smells and tastes like fruits and hops with a sweetish malty finish. Not bad but not my favorite Jester King beer.
