Beer geeks and rodeos don’t often go together, but if ever there were a place where the two would meet, it would be Denmark No one from Jester King has ever been to Denmark, but our friends Mikkel and Thomas tell us the entire country is inhabited by craft beer drinking, spicy food loving Viking cowboys and cowgirls, and we think that sounds awesome. So as they say in Danish, bunden i vejret eller resten i haret, which we believe is pro-nounced “Yee-haw!” Jester King Craft Brewery is an authentic farm-house brewery in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, on the outskirts of Austin. We brew what we like, drink what we want and offer the rest to those who share our tastes.

Imperial Oatmeal Stout brewed with smoked malt, chipotle peppers and Vietnamese coffee.

Bottle shared by my good friend Waffle, thanks dude! I found this beer to be extremely well balanced and full of flavor. The coffee and peppers really compliment each other well here. Not too spicy but the peppers are definitely in there. A great showing here.

750mL bottle, sent from xpimptastikx (thanks Michael), pours pitch black with a medium, lingering, foamy light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chipotle peppers, some oatmeal and light chocolate. Flavour of chipotle peppers, tastefully worked in albeit fairly dominant, coffee and roasted malt. Finishes with the chipotle and coffee, leaving a pleasant burn from the peppers. Excellent.

Pours pitch black with a large dark brown, mocha head. Smells strongly of chocolate with a strong coffee presence. Taste is bold: lots of chocolate, coffee, and some spice heat underneath. Full-bodied with a thick, chewy texture and mild mouth-carbonation, Jester King/Mikkeller Beer Geek Rodeo finishes with some solid pepper heat.

Sample at festival, pitch black pour, lighter aroma than expected. Aggressive, chipotle heat, peaty smoke and heavy roast. Chipotle burn lingers. Flavorful, good stuff

750ml bottle via trade on BA. pours a deep, onyx black capped by a full, creamy, dark mocha head with rusty edges. aroma is damn nice with heavy roasted coffee, milk chocolate, candy malt balls, and smoked wood backed by licorice, yeast, and subtle hints of chipotle peppers as it warms. flavor is delicious with big, dry, almost fruity dark chocolate, dark fruits, smoked malts, and whopper’s backed by gentle, peppery heat and finishing with smooth, roasted espresso. palate is full bodied and smooth in the mouth with dense carbonation and a dry, smokey, roasted finish. overall, a pretty unique imperial stout.
