This variation on an imperial oatmeal stout, brewed in collaboration with Mikkeller, contains a healthy dose of authentic Kopi Luwak coffee (a.k.a. “weasel coffee”), along with other Vietnamese coffees, ground chipotle pepper. and a touch of smoked malt.

The beer pours a very dark brown color with a small brown head. The aroma has a lot of coffee in it as well as some roasted malt and a hint of chocolate. The flavor is similar. The coffee really stands out, along with some heat and spice from the chipotle peppers. I also get some earthy notes as well as some chocolate and roasted malt. Thick mouthfeel and low carbonation. A very nice beer, glad I got to try it.

(750ml bottle) Near black, watery edges that are clear and some head when vigorously poured that dissipates to only wisps of dark tan head. Nose of medium dark chocolate shavings, mild chipotle, good roasted coffee, hints of plum, and smoked malt. Taste of medium dark chocolate, predominant spicy chipotle that’s not overwhelming but interesting, cream and medium roast coffee and a linger of plum jam that’s spicy. The body was the biggest disappointment. It looks thin in the glass, and unfortunately it is. Nearly no carbonation and The body borders on very thin. The taste itself is good on your palate but it definitely needed to attenuate a bit more as well as carbonate.

Pours near black with no head. Coffee and chipotle are noticeable but very subtle under the malt and oat backbone. Very good but really could have been kicked up a notch.

750 ml bottle into the trusty and eponymous Jester King snifter. Black with a tan, fine head. Smells of whiskey, plum, well-roasted coffee, smoked barley, cinnamon, salted caramel. Taste is quite robust. The coffee is more prevalent than others note, but it’s back seat to the whiskey, dark chocolate, sweet and spicy pepper, fig, light floral hops. The chipotle heat has accumulated by the end of the first 3 oz. Barrel treatment has done great things for an already great beer. Best Jester King effort yet!

750ml bottle. Near black pour with some tan head that receded to a ring. Lots of chocolate aroma, coffee, chili spice, oats. Strong coffee flavor, smooth chocolaty finish, and pepper heat that builds nicely.

Viscous black pour that coats the glass. Khaki head that settles to a ring. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, hints of pepper, and some booze. Taste is strong coffee, cocoa, a little smoke, and alcohol. Subtle heat from the chipotle. Coats the palette and warms on the way down. Very enjoyable.

I like the chipotle subtle heat mixed with the coffee flavors, all on top of a pretty good stout. One of their best.

On cask at Petrol Station. Pours a very dark brown with a small tan hea that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is coffee pepper and smoke. Thin mouthfeel with a strong coffee and roast with nice boozy smoke finish. Alcohol present but not overpowering. A very good imperial stout from Jester King.

Half pint at DH- served as black as hell and as hot, no head, sat very still. Aroma of burnt oats, coffee, and acetone. Yeah, acetone... Hits the mouth with a heavy and wide body, malt was burnt to hell but hated it this time around, cream and chemical feel in the middle, finish has a fair amount of heat and acetone again (UGH) with an oily feel. Had 4 sips, did not finish it. What does that tell you?

Runny black with a thin dirty ring for the head once settled, indicative of high abv. The aroma kicks you in the face with coffee and oats. The taste is cocoa, deep, strong coffee and alcohol. Its potent on every front and it lets you know it. Warms the gully on the way down and leaves ya with a sense of undeserved satisfaction.
