COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This version of Jester King and Mikkeller’s collaborative imperial oatmeal stout, made with chipotle peppers and smoked malt, was aged for six months in Tennessee whiskey barrels, prior to the addition of a special blend of Vietnamese coffees, including a large portion of authentic Kopi Luwak coffee (a.k.a. “weasel coffee”).

Bottle thanks to cparles. My 500th imperial stout rating. Pours black with brown head. Nose and taste of smoked chocolate malt, oak, whiskey, chili pepper, coffee and flaked oats. A touch overcarbonated. Lighter medium body.

Opened a bottle for this past new years. The previous time I had this beer was about a year before more of less. Aged pretty decently, though it had definitely faded a bit by this point. I recall this beer never really being big on the coffee flavor, tasted a bit of bourbon, and slightly chocolately. Still very glad to try this beer again. I wouldn’t mind if they brewed it again.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, thanks Stephen! Dark black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of thick chocolate, roast, whiskey, hints of oak, slight vanilla in there, hints of earthy, spicy, slight chili pepper notes in there as well, nice smoke, big coffee as well. Taste is a mix of coffee, chili pepper into some chocolate, coffee, roast, some nice oak, whiskey notes, finishing fairly bitter, dry.

750mL bottle. Poured viscous deep brown with a rich, quite dark brown head. The aroma picked up very enjoyable, semi-sweet coffee paired with toasty, spicy whiskey, oak barrel, and deep notes of vanilla bean.. complementary smoked peppers on the back of the nose.. great! The flavor found near-burnt coffee, licorice, and smoked chocolatey notes at the core, with smoky whiskey and tasty dried peppers through the finish.. peppery warmth built as the drink progressed, and had quite a kick with the alcohol on the finish.. tasty stuff! Heavier-bodied with silky, higher carbonation on the palate.. spicy and barrel-y, but everything worked well together.. I really enjoyed the use of the peppers in here.

750 ML bottle Black pour with a dark tan head. Nose is coffee, oak, whisky, chocolate, and slight chipolte pepper. Slightly faded coffee and pepper nose. Taste is at first coffee and oak, followed by whisky chocolate and dark fruits. Well balanced but faded. Palate once opened up is a lot of chipolte. Good amount of burn from the peppers. Well hidden alcohol and quite nice even though faded.

Bought this bottle 9/1/2012, popped it today for Father’s Day (gift to myself). Served at 50 degrees in a Jester King tulip. A: Deep black with a khaki head that is pretty vigorous and sticks around for a while. This then fades to a halo around the edges of the glass that laces a bit. S: Smells very similar to Black Metal, but there is a kick behind it. I can get a touch of the peppers, and more so of the whiskey, but overall it is very similar to BM. T: Again, BM-like, and very restrained for being a pepper beer. I am not a fan of a lot of pepper beers, but this one does it right. The pepper is there, but not excessive or burning, just a touch on the aftertaste to let you know it was in the batch. Also, the whiskey is a lot more mild flavored than I expected, but that may be from the 9 months of aging. M: Smooth, velvety, thick and oily, but not TOO thick. Pretty nice for a stout, about what I would ask for. D: For such a strong beer, and for being a beer with whiskey and peppers, this goes down too easily.

750 ml bottle shared by bsuedekum- thanks again, Blake! Pours an opaque near-black color with a small dark tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, oak, whiskey, roast, dark chocolate, and pepper. Flavor of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, whiskey, and pepper on the finish. Got the whiskey booze without as much of the barrel subtlety. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a roasty, spicy mouthfeel. The best of the Rodeo collaboration trio but I think they all could have been better.
