This version of Jester King and Mikkeller’s collaborative imperial oatmeal stout, made with chipotle peppers and smoked malt, was aged for six months in Tennessee whiskey barrels, prior to the addition of a special blend of Vietnamese coffees, including a large portion of authentic Kopi Luwak coffee (a.k.a. “weasel coffee”).

Schokoladiger Beginn mitröstig-hefigen Noten. Dabei sind Alkoholnoten (nicht negativ) schmeckbar. Starke Karbonisierung, zum Ende nussig, etwas brennend. 11/11/10/11//11

25.4 oz bottle. Dark brown with a slow to settle, thick and foamy tan head. Nose is coffee, whiskey, oak, molasses, chocolate and light smoke. Full body with a tang and spicy heat. I wanted to drink this before the coffee faded but probably could have gone another 6 months. Taste is massive whiskery, wood and coffee bean. Chocolate, bitter chipotle and grass eventually come out but not enough to balance. Hot in more ways than one but i really enjoyed the warming pepper notes.

Pour from bottle at Zwanze Day 2012 at the Barrel Cellar, courtesy of Stephen. Big thanks to me!! Appearance is pitch black with a big brown head and good lacing. Big chilie peppers, whisky wood, light roast, cocoa, black licorice, and spice in the aroma. Taste is dark chocolate, dark fruits, big coffee and espresso with some heat from the chilies on the backend. Sticky mouthfeel with soft caronation. Big bourbon and barrel notes, but pretty damn smooth. Pretty good.

Bottle thanks to hopper. Thanks!. Aroma and taste were quite messy, with the barrel character overwhelming the more harmonious blend of flavors found in the non BA version. Chili heat more pronounced. Boozy finish, lingering bitterness and a touch of heat that lasts too.

Sample at Borefts Beer Festival 2012. Pours a pitch black beer with no head. The aroma is malt, roasted, chocolate, licorice, vanilla, wood and alcohol. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is sweetness with alcoholwarmth. Overall a good beer with a high level of alcohol.

Sampled at GonzoIllini’s Birthday Party (Western Springs, IL). Happy Birthday, Tony! Pours a rich blackish hue, good darkness, haze, and murky. Good frothy brownish head, good haze, nice frothy brownish head stays well, laces. Aromas are coffee, whiskey, and gentle peppery heat. Touches of coffee, roast, and caramel. Growing gentle pepper, oak, vanilla, gentle whiskey heat. Initial is heavier end of the fold, good body despite barrel time. Toffee, toast, roasty. Coffee, cocoa, and whiskey. Gentle peppery heat into the middle, faint but slowly growing, a touch of synergy with the spirit. Backend and finish show some toastiness, carmelized, gentle roast and toffee. Oak, vanilla, kiss of spice. Nice beer.

Thanks, Chris! This is surprising from Jester King. Nose is nice whiskey with a bit of coffee. Flavor falls with too much chili. Medium chewy body.

Shared by raveskdr. Thanks Chris. The beer is black with a quarter inch of beige crema head. The aroma offers roast, chocolate, molasses. The flavor is roasty and chocolate forward, followed by a zesty bite with a touch of hops. Medium to full bodied with relatively high carbonation. Overall, this was pretty tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @ Armin’s bachelor party. Thanks Caleb! Pours a dark brown appearance with a tan/cream colored head. Kind of murky aroma with notes of chocolate, coffee, whiskey, vanilla, and wood. The flavor is even more so with a few nice notes going on (coffee, chocolate) but the whiskey kind of made it boozy and the peppers just made the thing strange. Fun to try nonetheless.
