Like the farmhouse style heavy on the hops. Really good lacing. Nice and cloudy. I was expecting a little more alcohol.

Undertones of phenols (smoke, clove and a touch of band aid), subtle yellow fruits and dough. The nose is elegant, slim and balanced. The flavour is dry, light to medium bitter and light acidic with notes of grass, herbs, wood, spices, subtle citrus, crackers, hay, bread, touch of phenols and fruits. The mouthfeel is soft, smooth and almost creamy with a near medium carbonation. Earthy/resinous/citric bitterness and slim/dry maltiness on the finish. Light to medium bodied.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 _angst_ (1745) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JUN 1, 2012

Smell is sweet, fruity, yeasty and funky with plums, very ripe oranges, hay, wheat crackers, cloves, orange zest, white pepper, dry soil, yeasty esters, white bread, curry leaves, cilantro, barnyard and biscuits. Taste is sweet, bitter, tiny sour and yeasty with yeasty dough, lemon juice, plums, green grapes, dry soil, hay, curry leaves, white pepper, cloves, black pepper, barnyard, orange zest, overripe mandarin oranges, coriander and hints of silage, brett and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is smooth, round, dry, tiny tart, slightly watery and light to medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and tart with crackers, hay, dry soil, orange zest, mandarin oranges, cloves, coriander and grape zest. A worthy 1000th rating.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 FlacoAlto (3450) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAY 31, 2012
Purchased from Rare Beer Club
A steady, somewhat careful nets me four fingers of foam, and then rises two fingers above the rim of the glass and is a pale tan / off-white in color. The head slowly subsides, with a varied, rocky surface and lots of thick lacing. The beer is an orange tinged, pale-amber / gold color that shows a bright, clear, yellow-gold color when held up to the light. The aroma smells grassy, herbal, and citrus laden; the malt intermingles quite well with the more dominant hop character. Notes of wheat crackers, dried hay, crushed pale malt come from the grain, while hints of lychee, ripe tangelo zest, Curacao orange zest touches of kumquat and some floral apricot are contributed by the hop character. The yeast character is quite present as well with a touch of mustiness, a phenolic, slightly clove-like backdrop, a hop accentuating fruitiness that leans towards melon or pears, a white pepper note, and some touches of ginger spice.
Effervescent, lively, dry, thirst quenching and bitter, but there is also a lot of floral / fruity hop character. The finish has a spiciness to it from the hops, but also from the fermentation character; slightly peppery, definitely a bit phenolic with both clove and touches of plastic, a dry ginger-like note, and perhaps a touch of earthy, somewhat musty spiciness. The malt character contributes to the perceived dryness in the finish with notes of dried hay and a lingering saltine cracker like grain note. The body of this beer is quite light, very light, but without seeming watery at all. The hop character, in addition to all the fruity / citrus notes, contributes to the dried grass / hay and herbal notes that form a large part of this beer; still there is lots of fruit character with notes of tangelo zest, bergamot, and lemon that are noticeable as oral-nasal influences to each sip. The beer is dry enough that the hop fruit character isn’t overly noticeable in the flavor alone.
This reminds me a whole lot of a hop forward Saison; in fact I would say it is almost a perfect example of a hoppy, dry, light, quaffable Saison with Citrusy-type hops. It is quite surprising that this only has Saaz and East Kent Golding hops in it, as there is a lot of fruit character to the hop notes. The fermentation profile of the three beers I have had from Jester King are all extremely similar and unifying; if you like this particular yeast profile you are going to love these beer, and I certainly do. Another knock-out beer by these guys, and I can’t wait to have more.
