Bottle thanks to the angrypirate06. RU-55 Drank while listening to RU486. Pours with a deep brown to mahogany hued body with a medium sized off-white head that fades relatively quickly. Aromas are of waxy, sundried and cara cara oranges, brett, wet wood and funk. Medium malt complexity, earthy, vinous, balsamic. Deep and complex. Flavors are of acid, mostly lactic with medium acidic. Deep malt overtones including toast, roast and caramel, massively vinous and strongly lactic. Pencil shaving and iodine. Good acidity. Slightly rustic with a negative connotation. Complex and quite sour, very light butyric acid. Very lively carbonation, dry. Feels bigger than 7.3%. Good, straight forward lacticly sour red. Overall nicely sour, with a slightly awkward but deep woodsy and waxy funk profile.

Oud Bruin like. Medium-high acidity. Not overly complex, but still has some nice flavor. This def takes a back seat to the fruited sours JK is putting out.

Pours copper garnet with a thin creamy beige head that lasts troughout the tasting. Mildly sour aromas with a vinous presence of berries, grapes, some cidery notes. Very Nice mix of aromas. Lightly carbonated, Nice acidic bite, fruity, bone dry, ciderish finale, with juste a hint of wood and something nutty. I love the sourness of this one, never too acidic or acetic. Very well balanced and highly drinkable which is rare for the style. Very good stuff!

Tasted on 1/24/15 from a capped 750mL bottle at Swilliams’ bonfire, big thanks to Churney for sharing. Pours hazy, very dark auburn with a huge white head that leaves thick sticky lace. The nose is sour dark bread malt with a touch of caramel malt. The flavor is sour and a touch fruity with a bit of caramel bread malt. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long, tart, bready finish.

Bottle: Murky, dark, stained-woody brown color with tepid ruby hints. Completely opaque. Swampy. Soapy, gray-tinted head quickly settles to a skin. Aroma of tart black cherry, sour apple, red grape, light vinousness, a big batch of oak staves, light vinegar, & a touch of cola. Little to no funk, mostly just lacto-esque & fruity sourness. Flavor is the same way, though a bit more vinous. Lots of red grape, oak, & sharp tannins with each sip. Puckering cherry skin, mild acidity. I get a light touch of tomato? Strangely not as off-putting as it sounds. It’s just... kind of "there". Moderate vinegar tartness, stone fruit, oak, & cherry finish. A touch of musk & cork flows into the aftertaste, but still isn’t as barnyardy as many other JK offerings. Crisp, somewhat light mouth feel. Another nice sour ale from these guys.
