3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 maneliquor (1551) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAY 17, 2013
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Unusual beer this one. Very farmhous driven yet hoppy as well. Huge unmistakeable notes of lemon rind throughout the beer. Very bready on the nose. Sweet bread though, like brioche - sweet and buttery. Chardonnay like. pine driven hops force their way in there as well. Bread comes through in the taste but the real winner here is lemon. Like lemon cake with lemon rind as a decorator on top. Wouldn’t surprise me if Sorachi Ace has been used. Chewy and spritzy carbonation. Very unique and summer driven stuff
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 fletchfighters (814) - AUSTRALIA - MAY 14, 2013
750 ML bottle with a wicked label.
Hazy golden yellow, massive white head, falls to a thick half finger and sticks around. Lots of lacing.
Nose is bread, yeast, grass, pine, grapefruit and citrus.
Taste is still a lot of bread with pine, grass, citrus, spice and grapefruit.
Opens up more in the mouth. More rounded is more like it. Medium bodied, chewy and decent carbonation. Bitterness is more obvious in the palate than in the taste. Dry, spicy citrus finish.
Fun IPA
4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 scootpolute (1) - Kirkland, Washington, USA - MAY 1, 2013 does not count
I’ve been here 3 weeks and this was my first ’good-beer’ in Austin. I’m from Kirkland WA (Seattle)...Yeah, I had to go with the hype-ie beers first (shiner bock/ lone-star) and as you could imagine there was disappointment! So I yelped a bit and found that the best beer store in ’town’ is a min-mart (7-11) likes store (no joke) called, Sunrise Mini-mart....this place was nothing less than AMAZING!! The selection was comparable to Bottle-works (those from the Seattle area will know what I mean)...good stuff OK this Beer...I requested from the knowledgeable staff (I heard that Sam is the best, but I spoke with a cool guy named Rob (or was it Ron?!)...I asked him to give me a local beer comparable to Stone IPA (cliche, eh?!) any way this was where he steered me...and here is what I think...
Appearance...I’m always a ’softy’ and give kudos (is that word making a comeback, if not, my apologies!!) for unfiltered beer!!
Taste: Mellow hops up front were mellow, but gained momentum as I progressed through the beer...
Mouthfeel is ultra-smooth and creamy with a malty thick full-body. The initial taste is an absolute hop assualt on the palate! A spicy, stinging and salty plethora of citric nuances literally overwhelm the senses. Earth, leaf and grass flavours pull-thru, then are followed by an alcohol presence and spiciness. The malt in this beer is definately present but gets its ass fiercly kicked by the hops. Malt includes some toasted, slightly bready and light honey flavours with an even malt sweetness. It hardly balances the beer, but does keep it somewhat control. Beer finishes with residual hop spice and malt sweetness, which tends to linger for some time.
Notes: This was a pretty amazing recommendation....’MAYBE’ even worth the $10.99 Belgium bomber Sunrise Mini-Mart charged (I’m a bit of a penny-pitcher!!)...This is an absolutely marvelous beer for all the hop-heads out there, albeit very daunting for those who are not into hops to the extreme. For what it is, it’s crafted to near perfection. A "Wow!" beer for sure. 7..3 % abv. (from the bottle reading)

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 DeputyAndy (626) - Ambler, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 16, 2013
Bottle from Capone’s. Pours a clear amber with tons of white head. Aroma is strangely soapy, barnyard, not hoppy at all. Taste is very tart, crisp, and dry. Not much malt coming through. Some hop stickiness is present. I believe this has some Brett in it, but i’m not downgrading a beer with Brett that is called "wytchmaker".
