COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
India Pale Ale brewed with nearly three pounds of hops per barrel and 15% malted rye. Dry, flavorful, drinkable beer with vibrant notes of citrus, tropical fruit and pine.

Note: This entry is the original Wytchmaker. Beginning around the time of their first anniversary, Jester King switched to a farmhouse yeast for all of their beers. All ratings after this switch should be entered under the Farmhouse Wytchmaker Rye IPA entry. The original Wytchmaker bottles feature a small Jester King sticker on the neck; the Farmhouse Wytchmaker bottles have the word "Farmhouse" in small print on the label.

Rye is noticeable and seems to bring out the wild yeast in this version more that the non rye version. It’s good.

Impressed how many flavors JK has balanced in this. Sour from farmhouse up front, and a bit funky, and bitter from hops in the backbone. Very nice, would highly recommend.

Aroma of citrus, hops, and sour yeast. Typical sour flavor from jester king but with a smooth hop and citrus finish. Pretty good sour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours hazy pale orange with a thick white head. Strong orange peel and rye aroma. Taste has a robust rye taste with lemon and pineapple. Finish is dry and bitter. Nice!

Reviewed from notes: loved the old bottles with the 2nd Jester King label atop. Pours a nice amber color with off-white head. Pine, spice, and caramel and wheat notes; follows onto the palate. Finishes with light fruit and citrus.

Entering old notes. Thanks to Rosebud butternuts for this one. Pours a hazy yellow-orange with a white head. Nose is big caramel, slight spicy rye, some big citrus character, and some pine. Flavor is a nice burst of spicy rye, citrus, slight pine, and mild tropical fruit. Medium to full in body for the style and very nice and remarkable overall.

From notes. Poured amber, with a big, off-white head. Fruity nose, with peaches, orange, pineapple and honey in the aroma. Pleasant hops, with rye present. Oily, smooth.

Alright let's be honest, this is an IPA. Very hoppy. The bottle says wild yeast, Brettanomyces and souring bacteria. Other than MAYBE a slight Brett SMELL, the taste is nothing more than your standard Sierra Nevada IPA. Looking for a nice sour? Pass on this one. Look for Cuvée des Jacobins, any RRBC sours -the best, or Goose island Lolita and/or Juliet. (Juliet being the superior). Jester King, I want to love you bc I love your artist, but please, get a real brewmaster in house. No more piss and asphalt, please.

Bottle, pours dark gold with large white head, aroma of fruit, taste of fruit with a slight bitter hop finish. Good IPA
