COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
India Pale Ale brewed with nearly three pounds of hops per barrel and 15% malted rye. Dry, flavorful, drinkable beer with vibrant notes of citrus, tropical fruit and pine.

Note: This entry is the original Wytchmaker. Beginning around the time of their first anniversary, Jester King switched to a farmhouse yeast for all of their beers. All ratings after this switch should be entered under the Farmhouse Wytchmaker Rye IPA entry. The original Wytchmaker bottles feature a small Jester King sticker on the neck; the Farmhouse Wytchmaker bottles have the word "Farmhouse" in small print on the label.

Bottle. A murky brownish gold color with a big foamy white head. A smooth aroma with a light fruity character. A nice mouthful but not overfly bitter. It has a dry finish. A well balanced IPA.

Entering old notes. Thanks to Rosebud butternuts for this one. Pours a hazy yellow-orange with a white head. Nose is big caramel, slight spicy rye, some big citrus character, and some pine. Flavor is a nice burst of spicy rye, citrus, slight pine, and mild tropical fruit. Medium to full in body for the style and very nice and remarkable overall.

From notes. Poured amber, with a big, off-white head. Fruity nose, with peaches, orange, pineapple and honey in the aroma. Pleasant hops, with rye present. Oily, smooth.

Alright let's be honest, this is an IPA. Very hoppy. The bottle says wild yeast, Brettanomyces and souring bacteria. Other than MAYBE a slight Brett SMELL, the taste is nothing more than your standard Sierra Nevada IPA. Looking for a nice sour? Pass on this one. Look for Cuvée des Jacobins, any RRBC sours -the best, or Goose island Lolita and/or Juliet. (Juliet being the superior). Jester King, I want to love you bc I love your artist, but please, get a real brewmaster in house. No more piss and asphalt, please.

Appearance: the beer pours with a large white head that settles into a very nice dense head, the beer is a darker yet very hazy gold color, good head retention, good lacing Aroma: very strong spice, almost a sweet spice, citrus, orange, some bread, egg, yeast, some funk Taste: lots of spice up front almost reminds me of pumpkin, a certain sweetness hints, coriander, Palate: leaves mouth dry, has a slight bitter aftertaste, moderate mouthfeel, lively carbonation Overall: very interesting beer, sweet flavors with strong spice notes that remind me of pumpkins, still not a very sweet beer overall, bottled 11-4-13. BEENJAMIN (288) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 11, 2014
750ml bottle at home - held to the light, pours a hazey yellow with a lasting frothy white head. The aromas are complex; bergamot, candied lemon peel, spruce, white tea, and grains. Taste is tart and dry with a faded bitter hop finish and is overall refreshing. The yeast strain in combo with the rye and hops create a spicy unique ale that I look forward to having again.

Very solid beer. Great hoppy Aroma, the Rye, yeast and hops work together nicely to give this beer a slight viciousness.

750ml bottle. Murky peach with an off white head. Smells carbonated, flowery, light horse blanket, old musty pine needles, yeast, grapefruit skin, pepper. Moderate+ carbonation, interesting body, very dry, chardonnay, more pepper.
