3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
BBD 11/16. Clear golden pour. Outstanding head volume, very good lacing and quite outstanding retention.
Outstanding nose of light airy grassy hops with a touch of herbal thrown in. Underneath is a grainy note that is not quite cracker biscuit.
Heavy light body that is very smooth with just a slight oiliness. World class carbonation / body balance. Middle effervescence is moderate and the finish is prickly...just the right balance.
The flavor profile is very good but lacks a touch of sweetness for complexity, contrast and balance. Bitterness is mild. Hop flavor consists of grassy up front then shifts to herbal in the middle. Herbal flavor flows through the finish and lingers along with a residual bitterness.

330ml bottle, enjoyed many times in Germany, but this one from Erzengel. Many thanks chap. Pours clear gold, good white head. Aroma is nicely sweet. Taste is distinctly Northern German with lightly sweet malts and a medium bitterness. Seems a touch watery tho.

I like this beer, it’s rather expensive in my country.
The Brewer’s blurb about the water from 100 years ago is pure blurb.
Everybody uses crystal clear water from the Ice Age! Single Malt factories and Beer breweries.
One couldn’t detect a difference if they used just tap water. (not considered USA and foul tap EU countries’ water)
Clear water tastes like NOTHING! Like everybody knows.
Exception is the Amstel beer (by Heineken group) brewed in Curaçao.
They use water from the Caribbean sea, desalted, but there’s a tinge of salt left.
One could taste the difference.
Dutch Amstel is not as good and rather like Heineken.

May ’15. A 0.5 l bottle from a supermarket, enjoyed at the wonderful English Garden park in Munich. Skipped it so many times, I really had to buy it. Herbal hop, some grain and hay in aroma. Flavor was moderately bitter, herbal, with biscuit and light honey malt in the background to balance it out. Medium bodied with moderate, dry paper and herbal finish. As expected, rather an average classic German pils, not bad.
