Jihlavský Grand 18°

Bottled. A golden beer with a slight haze under a thin white head. The aroma is sweet with noets of bread and malt as well as light notes of alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty with light notes of alcohol, leading to a dry bitter and alcohol finish. The body is quite powerful.

Bottled. Golden colorued. Malty aroma. Sweet alcoholic malt flavour. Nice. Medium bodied.

Bottle from Pivni Galerie, Holesovice: Pours deep golden with a firm, mid-sized off-white head; mainly malty nose (honey, bread, also nutty aroma) with some floral hoppy overtones and traces of alcohol; initia maltyl sweetness changes in "the second half": good, distinctive hoppy bitterness leads to a well balanced bitter-sweet finish. Well hidden alcohol, full-bodied and warming, but still refreshing. A goodie !

Very low carbonation ponctuates the clear straw body covered by a trace of white head that rapidly becomes a ring. Aroma is immediately highly grainy, apparently a standard for strong blonde lagers with profound bleachy alcohol if not pungent. Rather strong, strawy, herbal saaz tones. Spicy palate, bringing a good slash of bitterness into the could have been too sweet development. The malt remains fairly subtle despite its quantity. Light carbonation, comfortable texture. Alright balance, quite mellow and the herbal alcohol seems to work better for me than in the aroma, but this is another beer that truly serves no purpose to me and I could just not dig it as much as my peers. There are plenty of better strong lagers, nevermind ales and this stays all along on the border of delicacy behind which stand gloriously plenty of pils or helles to serve the thirst-quenching and crisp grounds better than Jihlavsky. Plenty are far more complex while we’re at it..
