COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Orchard Gate Gold is fermented naturally in small artisanal batches from a proprietary blend of organic apples grown here at our Koan Family Orchards in Michigan. We have produced hard ciders here since the 1860s. This is the same traditional recipe that helped save our farm during the great depression. There will be slight variations from batch to batch, just as nature makes no two apples alike! Enjoy our authentic hand bottled American Farmhouse "Scrumpy" Cider with family, friends & food.

22 ounce bottle from Winooski Beverage in Winooski, VT (May 2008), served just above fridge temperature from a Chouffe tulip. Very slight fizzy head dies quickly, some bubble action continues in the pale faintly cloudy gold body for a while....nose is nice, very fresh apple juice, hint of tartness, but little complexity or farmhouse character....and body is more or less the same, much sweeter than a traditional English or French-style cider, if more "real" tasting than the typical Woodchuck soda versions....towards the finish there are hints of alcohol and some interesting mineralic notes, but overall this is simple and unsophisticated and only a slight step above those ciders sold in 6-packs that it seems to be trying to distance itself from.

Pours with a chill hazed golden body with a small fizzy head. Aroma is of alcohol, cinnamon and apples. Taste is nearly cloyingly sweet. Sort of like a cheap NA apple cider with some (hardly noticable) alcohol added. Syrupy mouthfeel for the 5.5% abv. Fizzy carbonation.

Bomber poured a hazy tarnished gold with no head (still). Aromas of apples,m yeast and mustiness. Palate was light to medium bodied and crisp with a tart finish. Flavors of apples, cookie and light yeast with a crisp lightly tart lingering apple finish.

Tastes a lot like alcoholic apple juice. After drinking so many dry ciders, this is a refreshing change of pace. Smells delicious and tastes like Honeycrisp apples squeezed in a bottle. Highly recommended.

Medium gold body with only hints of any type of head. The aroma is rich apple pie with some dandelion notes. The taste is like licking perfume off an apple. Musky and earthy for a light cider, this is also a little harsh in itís very syrupy sweet yet dusty tasting finish. There is a note that makes me think of raspberry flavored hard candy. It jsut gets nastier as I drink more of this stuff.

(22 oz. bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/w target=blank>Julioís Liquors) Alcoholic apple juice!...Pours slightly cloudy light yellowish amber. A quick fizzy off white head. Some fine effervescent bubbliness. Aroma of sweet apples. Mouthfeel actually not bad - has more texture than a macro-cider. A little sticky, pretty smooth. Flavor is pure sweet apples, vitrually zero tartness. Actually tastes a little hot in finish, esp. as it warms. If youíd like to chug some sweet hard cider on a hot day this would be a good one.

Pours a hazy but thin yellow, a little too much like urine. Aroma is apples and vodka/alcohol. Flavor is nice and richly apple until the alcohol hits. Very dry. Not quite a drain pour, but pretty close.

Bottle. Pours hazy golden yellow, no head. Aroma is tart sweet apple and caramel. Wow. Flavor is the same with some spicing and very very sweet. On the syrupy side. Itís definitely a dessert drink. I couldnít see consuming more than one of these in a sitting.

Gold, thin rim of bubbles around the outside of the glass. Nose is apple now & laters, port, sweet white wine. Flavor is more of that apple now & later, slight tartness, a bit of tannin, port, honey. Its good but way too sweet. If this was fermented out the the point of dryness itíd be great. Iíll keep this in mind next time a friend is looking for something syrupy. I had to lower my score for this. Honestly itís like drinking syrup. I measured the SG of this - its 1.028 - thats around the level of Expedition Stout. Thats wayyyy too much for a 5.5% cider!
