3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 whaleman (2175) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 27, 2003
Golden-copper hue and sudsy white head. Moderate to high carbonation. Herbal hop aroma, fruity malts, and honey. Distinct sourness plus some underlying malt sweetness. Surprisingly tart. Despite my tepid rating, I'm curious to try this one on draught.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BeerSlacker (34) - Ontario, CANADA - AUG 20, 2003
Copper colour with a hop nose. Sweet, maltiness comes through in the body. This is an English Amber Ale, so those expecting a hoppy American Amber will be disappointed. A decent beer for the style.
2.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 JFGrind (1552) - Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 2, 2003
I've always thought this beer was top notch, but never tried it. I had it on draft, it was enjoyable but not an extraordinary ale.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 kwoeltje (1764) - Manchester, Missouri, USA - AUG 2, 2003
Light-medium amber with no head. Mild malt aroma. Mild malt flavor (a trace of nuts?) with only a hint of hops at the finish. As noted, a bit unexiting for a an ale that's labeled "Amber Ale" on the bottle. But not bad.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Holdwine (1000) - Beertimore, Maryland, USA - AUG 2, 2003
MArketed as an amber in the bottle I had. Always beware when they say "premium beer" on the label. Nothing amber about this one, although it isn't a pale ale either. It is kinda stuck in the middle. Not enough hops for the PA and not amlty enough to be an amber. Not unpleasant, but that is about the best that can be said. Nice creamy head, then it goes straight to average beer land.

Reminds me of Bass, but the flavor is lacking in comparison. A good ale.

Amber in color with a frothy off white head that sticks around for a while. Aroma is lightly malt with floral hints. Flavor is slightly bitter, but a bit thin and watery. Overall, it not too bad, but I expected more.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20 ElGaucho (1816) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - JUL 10, 2003
Faint, yet rich aroma, reminiscent of an English bitter. Amber body with small off-white head that totally disappates. Flavor is very similar to an English bitter. Had it right after a Fullers ESB. Fullers is a lot better but John Courage isn't bad. Highly drinkable but needs more punch.
