Commercial Description:
If you chocolate as much as Augustus did, you'll want to fall into a glass of this. We added real cocoa to this Belgian porter to add a tasty chocolate flavor to this dark, full-bodied ale.

On tap at the brewpub on 9/14/07: Pours a mostly opaque with ruby mahogany edges and a thin, wispy-lacing light tan head. Aroma of lightly roasted earthy dark malt and bready yeast. Body starts a little thin for a porter with some caramel sweetness, earthy bittering hops, slightly burnt roasted malt and a Belgian yeasty finish. An interesting brew.

Same pint as JoeMcPhee drank right below me. Black body with a tan head that has a sticky lacing. Just a mineral aroma and an essence of what porter should be there. Taste is a bit empty with a mineral quality. It’s pretty light and has a low bitterness. Really nothing stood out for me and I got nothing chocolate or Belgian.

Dark black beer topped with a thick brown head. Aroma is quite nice, dark caramel, dark chocolate. Flinty and minerally bitterness. Some earthy dark chocolate and roasted coffee. A decent if very dry interpretation.

Dark brown beer with nearly no head - very apparent cocoa in the aroma, with some sweetened coffe and cream qualities - the flavor is drier than the aroma suggests, but there isn’t a very strong cocoa presence (no more so than a "normal" porter) - some cookie-ish flavor - ends with a little bit of berry fruitiness and tobacco - a bit thin - solid, but probably not worth another visit for me.

Tap @ Lake Grove. Poured a very deep brown color with a thin off-white head. Aroma of coffee and roasted malt. The flavor is of coffee then ends in a dry chocolate. Some yeasty notes on the finish. Light carbonation. light-medium body.
