3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at John Harvardís Brewhouse, Cambridge on 21 October 2012. Looks to be a special made at, and exclusively for, the Cambridge location. Black. Lasting tick beige head. Quite smoky on the nose. Smoke builds up strongly on the palate. Fairly rich mouthfeel. Although the initial impression was dry, I actually found it quite sweet as time went on (and the beer warmed up). The smoke lingers longest into the aftertaste. Certainly interesting and initially very appealing but I was finding it hard going by the end. More a beer to enjoy in a snifter than a whole pint for me. No idea what style of beer this is - some sort of brown al base with a fair dollop of smoked malt, maybe with some aging, at a guess.
