cheapdark (1605), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 7, 2007 Updated: Dec 31, 2007On tap at the Monroeville John Havard. Pretty dark and hazy. Has a slight fruity smell. The aroma is overly spiced, more so than most wheat beers. The initial taste is a little tart and sour then it fades to mostly wheat beer spices, overly spiced. The spices in this brew make it pretty single minded, spices are overwhelming the subtleties of the wheat. Very similar in taste as the Belgian Summer Ale Saison and JH Weizenbock. They must have used the same spice recipe for both. Good tingly mild carbonation. Has some roasty hints in there and perhaps I do detect a little chocolate during the session. Cannot taste any bananas due to the overwelming coriander and clove spices. I’m a wheat beer lover but this JH wheat has a bit too much spice for my girlie taste buds. Finish has a lasting medium low alky industrial bitterness on the back of the throat.
