DocLock (4170), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 25, 2005 Draft at Wayne, PA, location. The best John Harvard’s beer I have ever had. Huge, in your face hops butressed by tons of malt and finishing with a multi-faceted presence of citrus, spice, black pepper, fruit, and florals. Just delicious. If you live in suburban Philly, you must get ya some. PWalk (334), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 26, 2006 Draught at Wayne: Citrus notes at the nose with a nice malty character. Piney flavor with just enough hops. Not overly hoppy and that’s a good thing. On the palate I found the beer to be extremely smooth. Was really surprised by it. Took some home with me in a bottle for $25. TURDFERGUSON (1153), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Oct 22, 2006 Hand-bottled via trade with Dickinsonbeer. Thanks Paul. Pour is amberish orange with a small white head. Well carbonated, strong floral and citrus hop aromas with sweet malt backbone. Very well balanced and incredbily quaffable. Almost drank this one in two sips it just went down so easy. Very sticky resinous hops stand out in this one. And the balance which is just so vital to the palate of IIpa’s in my opinion. Dickinsonbeer (2550), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Aug 6, 2006 Had a pint at John Harvards in Wayne, PA labelled as King’s Hop Kick IPA. This is a phenomenal double IPA. Pours a clear amber with a thin off white head with streaky lacing and low carbonation. Aroma is piney with mango and citrus with a sticky thick sweet caramel malt background. Flavor is only slightly dominated by Hops with a nice sticky (somewhat syrupy) yet clean caramel malts. Awesomely smooth mouthfeel and great bitter aftertaste. michael-pollack (1465), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 11, 2005 Updated: Sep 2, 2006Draught @ Wayne, PA: Had both tap and cask versions. Aroma of both was slight, but of hops and citrus. Cask also had scent of alcohol. Both were a murky orange color. Cloudy. Kind of looks like Stoudt’s IPA. Big, lasting white head. Great lacing. Bitter flavor of citrus, mint, and grapefruit. Cask was more balls out alcohol flavor. Short, dry finish. Lively carbination. A surprisingly good local IPA. [Brewer’s Reserve; 1L: Hoppy aroma. Amber color. Big light tan head. More bitter and with a bigger bite than when originally reviewed. Overall, I added 0.2 for appearance and flavor based on the Reserve.]
