4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at JHís in Manchester CT. A wonderful light-bodied hoppy golden lager. Clean and refreshing. This one has a tad more hops than the classic German type, but is still quite drinkable an refreshing. Well made version of a very under-appreciated style.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft in Pittsburgh, PA. Clear dark straw. Large frothy white head. Modest carbonation. Healthy toasted bread crust malts and floral hop balance. Gentle malt sweetness. Crisp and clean finish. Easy drinking. A good stab at a sometimes boring style.

Framingham, MA - Has a golden color and malted smell. Taste is of the pilsner malt and finished with a slight crisp bitterness. Overall I enjoyed this beer due to the fact that I like pilsners.

Assume this is what is called "Harvard Square Helles" in the Harvard Square location.
Dull golden, with quickly receding head. Grassy aroma with sweet, malty flavor. Light carbonation, medium body.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Draft in Manchester, CT. The beerís name was "Cold as Helles", but I will place it here. Crisp, slightly sweet and grassy nose. Transparent yellow/orange golden color with dissipating yellowish head. Grassy, slightly hoppy middle. Creamy and grainy to finish. A fair representation of the style. I detect sort of a milky flavor/sensation. The more I drink, the more this tastes like a cheap macro.

I am very saddened to see how much John Harvardís has fallen off in their beer in the last 6 months or so. I speak with only knowledge of the Wayne, PA location, but their beers arenít as good as they used to be. The food is still great, but I usually go to Iron Hill or GLI or Sly Fox of Victory these days.
