4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
A surprise find (for me) in a New Prague, Minnesota restaurant cooler, this poured black from the bottle with a thin, lace of foam. It delivered huge aromas of caramel, vanilla and bourbon and an equally huge taste, some chocolate and more of the bourbon. The roasted malts come out strongly. Its high alcohol content goes down smooth - the smoothest stout I have ever tasted.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color - almost black with a small foamy brown head that faded and left minimal lacing. The aroma was malty cookie dough, bourbon, vanilla, cola and flour. The flavor was malty flour, a bit of cocoa, bourbon, more flour, coconut, vanilla and more flour. Medium length bread dough, flour and bourbon finish Moderately full bodied but a bit undercarbonated. The flour presence overwhelms and I found myself liking this beer less with each sip.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Ahh yes, dark, thick, and strong, just how I like it. This is an interesting cross of a barley wine, red/brown ale, and stout. Aroma is kinda weak, but has brown sugar, vanilla, oak, raisin, and maple syrup in the nose. Pours dark brown/black with a reddish tinge. Not too heavily hopped, which is nice for a change. The heavy, syrupy sweetness is well balanced by the judicious use of hops and roasted malts. Medium to full body, creamy, oily texture, soft carbonation, and long, sweet finish. From Cold Spring in Minnesota, not usually known for craft beer, but times they are a changiní.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Slightly medicinal, boozy, and flavors of oak and bourbon. Thin body, with some slight caramel malt presence. Not bad, but lacks the full flavor and body of an actual bourbon barrel aged beer.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
2/27/13. On draft (SIXTEL) @TGL had a bland ipa first and then followed up with this overly bland barrel aged dreck.
Could be my least favorite barrel aged beer to date

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a near black deep brown with a tan foamy head. Aroma of deep syrupy malt and burbon. Taste is sweet vanilla and oak mixed with a dark bitterness that married well with the vanilla.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle into a tulip glass.
A: Pours an extremely dark cola color. It *almost* looks like a stout, but not quite. The head is about a fingers worth of mocha shaded head, with some nice creaminess. Retention isnít fantastic, though some decent (if thin looking) lacing is left behind.
S: Sweet and bourbon-y. The sweet (most noticeably vanilla) and the bourbon-y notes upon opening it up are quite pleasant, later being supplanted by caramel, toffee, and cherries. Aromatically, itís a bit too mild, but has decent (if not stunning) depth.
T: At first, it starts with a barrage of vanilla sweetness. It introduces the same problem I had with Anderson Valley Bourbon Barrel Stout, its flavor is overly reminiscent of cola, Dr. Pepper in this case. The bourbon character is there (if rudimentary), but thereís no oak character, either. After the vanilla sweetness opens the palate, it shifts somewhat abruptly to a roasted nut character and afterwards, into a clean yet dry toffee laden finish. Actually, the finish has a strange bitter element to it; itís also a touch leathery as well. Thankfully itís not boozy in the least. Good complexity - in an unrefined, messy way that is. Having said that, thereís just something very, very likeable about this brew. Warts and all, Iím genuinely enjoying this a lot.
M: The feel is airy, decently carbonated, and somewhat light. A thicker, creamier feel would help suit the sweetness better. Then again, with the light feel, dry finish, and lack of alcohol, itís surprisingly drinkable. Itís lack of a decadent feel is its biggest problem.
O: Flawed yet endearing. Thatís my takeaway from this. Itís hardly perfect, and honestly, thatís why I enjoy it so much. This is one of those few beers that take you on a wild ride - some of the stops on the journey arenít the greatest, but the end result is something that leaves you craving for more. I could do another bottle of this, honestly.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Interesting beer. Poured cola ish with a big head. Aroma was dark fruits, fig, plum, some burt molasses or sugar. Some char notes on the nose. Taste was good. Some roast and oak. Slight vanilla. Good flavor, as one user said though, wears on you quickly. For the price, it was worth the try.

Pours dark and stout like. Big chocolate and burnt malt. Alc presence is nice and not too overpowering. Very excellent brew.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750ml bottle thanks to caterwaul. Shared with local raters. Mostly clear brown red color. Thin khaki head. Couple bits of lace. Dark fruit, oak, light vanilla in the nose. Moderate bitter, moderate sweet taste, some alcohol bite. Warmth in the nose. Soft, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Lightly spicy bite in the finish. Caramel malt, light nutty malt. Solid strong ale, kind of biting though. More bite than aroma for me. Could use more of a full body. More bite and harsh taste than satisfying flavor, though maybe my cold is spoiling this
