Commercial Description:
John Labatt Classic was introduced in 1983 as Canada’s only national domestic “premium beer”. It is Krausen-brewed (slow, low temperature with a secondary fermentation process) and has a longer cold-aging process. Classic uses all-malt and a unique blend of western-grown North American hops, providing a smooth, full flavour product with a true malt taste that is slightly sweet. Editor's Note: Is this only available in the US?

12oz - Got this thinking it was the Classic Wheat, of which I had fond memories. What a letdown. Just sort of laid there after the pour, and no balance on the palate. Poor.

Bottle. Pour is a pale and fizzy gold with doughy malt and grassy hop aromas. A touch of pepper in the aroma, too. Taste is a nice mix of pepper and grass hops presence hovering over a soft texture of light malt. (Wow... that’s really bad, but I’m going to leave it.) This is pretty good...

It pours with a big fizzy head that fades fast leaving nothing behind. The body is clear with a light golden color. It has a rather light aroma with hints of light sweet malts. The taste has a semi-sweet barley malt and corn flavor with very light hops in the background. Its body is light with a rather thin texture and an almost flat carbonation. Overall it is a rather boring beer to look at and drink.

From a 340 ml. brown bottle lot coded J12L71 0606. The pour is a lively carbonated straw-gold with bubbly off-white head. The aroma is on the malty side. The flavor is also malty and I like that. Hops are diminished and subtle. I think it has a solid taste and I like it better than Labatt’s more easily available Blue and Labatt 50 (and I generally like those bieres). Nice choice for a warmer day. I have only seen this in a mix case and not as a stand alone 6-pack.

not nearly as filling as blue, which is a good thing, cleaner taste, had two after fertilizing the lawn this evening, so my ratings may be biased due to my exertion.

Bottle. Small white head that mostly diminished with very little lacing, transparent, visible carbonation, and a yellow hue. The nose was light hops and malt and a tad skunky. Flavor was light hops and malt. Woo-hoo. Not! Fairly smooth mouthfeel and light-medium body. IMO absolutely nothing special about this beer whatsoever. It definitely did not wow me by any means and therefore I have no interest in having this one again.

As products from mega-breweries go, this one isn’t bad at all. The pour is not-quite-clear golden, with a large white head. Aroma is malt...and lots of it. Taste is as malty as the aroma with just a bit of sweet malt in the background. Finishes relatively clean. Biggest draw back is that the actual flavor is a bid subdued and lacks depth. Not amazing, but like I said...as offerings from major brewers go, this one’s pretty good.
