Strong, sweet aroma of caramel and toffee with a hint of pine. Fairly light, watery mouthfeel with some forward carbonation. First sip is quite sweet, chased with a little bright citrus and some of that slight hoppy bitterness. S’alright. DuffMan (2786), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 31, 2009 Bottle. Nut brown, clear, with a thinnish vanilla head. Aroma is caramel with a kiss of burnt sugar. Flavours are sweet caramel with a faint fruity quality. The first sample I had finished with an unpleasant metallic note, but subsequent bottles have been better. Served slightly warmer, this beer offers a little more flavour and character, but nothing really stands out. GregClow (2516), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 26, 2009 Bottle. Has a clear and bright copper hue with a decent sized head that dissipates a bit quicker than I’d hoped. Aroma has the strong malt notes expected from the style, with a fair bit of caramel and toffee, and a light herbal edge thanks to the hops. Body is a touch light for the style, with a decent level of carbonation, making it a good palate-cleansing companion for food. The flavour starts sweet, with the caramel and toffee character suggested by the aroma, followed by a hint of orange and a moderately dry nuttiness. Herbal and slightly earthy hops are noticeable in the finish, but take a back seat to the hops. As with previous John Sleeman Presents beers, it ain’t the best example of its style that I’ve had, but it’s still a very respectable and quaffable beer. fredthecat (210), Canada
