Commercial Description:
Also known as Porter 68.
Brewed in small batches and limited quantities, Fine Porter is the first of the John Sleeman Presents series. Taken right from page 68 of the family recipe book, it pays homage to the original Porters of Great Britain, and was brewed by George Sleeman back in the 1800s.
Tasting Notes: Fine Porter is one of the more flavourful styles of ale. It has a rather bold, malty taste and a deep, rich colour.

341mL bottle: Thin tan, bubbly head on a clear, dark flat body. Aroma is definitely not offensive but doesn’t stand out. The flavor is true to its commercial description: Caramel, roasted malts and barley with chocolatey notes offset by hop bitterness. Palate is a little too effervescent for my notion of a fine porter. Overall, this is a good porter.

Dark brown (much darker than the picture displayed here), thin brief head. Nice chocolate and coffee aroma, but the palate doesn’t really translate-- thin, with an uncomplimentary astringently bitter finish. Unbalanced and skimpy.

Poured a dark murky brown with a light tan head. Aroma was of toffee chocolate and some caramel. Flavor was nice and roasted but a bit bland and watery.

Bottled as Porter 68. Poured dark brown, with a rocky tan head. Nose was roasty and malty. Flavor was bittersweet chocolate, roated malt. The finish was too bitter--not a hoppy bitter, but more of an astringent finish. That being said, it was a refreshing beer. Perhaps not a good example of a porter, but not the drain pour inferred by others.

Quite enjoyed this one. Clear mahogany against the light, fine beige suds. Nose pitched between Belgium (sweet sugary stout) and the Baltic- slightly sourish dried fruit, adjuncty cooked sugar sweetness, toffee, chocolate, yeast extract. Dusty chocolate, pruney sweetness, roasted malt and lingering smoke on the palate. Just a nibble of astringency that isn’t quite right, but quite a tasty beer with some authentic character. Underrated.

Yikes, nothing like a porter, more like a dark pale lager. light bodied, clear amber colour small tan head, with a hint of honey roaste nuts.
