Cask, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal, Oadby. Dark brown with red tints and a dense beige foam. Aromas are light malts with some fruitiness. Traces of chocolate. Flavours are smooth, light malts with some light coffee. Not much going on. Boring.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 harrisoni (9609) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - MAY 4, 2009
Cask handpull at Willow Walk Spoons, Victoria. Deepish brown colour, thin beige head. It’s a slightly low flavoured bitter, nothing wrong with it, just no real flavour or hop.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 DruncanVeasey (4800) - NUNEATON, Conference North, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - APR 27, 2009
The Figure of Eight (JDW), Broad St, Brum. Still ruby with a squirt of Gillette. Slightly beefy cask aroma. Mushy choc and caramel malts, bit of chestnut, mild-like caramel slickness, slight dankness. Inoffensive- if it was labelled a mild we probably wouldn’t be so scathing. Pretty close to the cask version of the standard bitter. Finishable.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DonMagi (5599) - bantervile, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - APR 26, 2009
Cask in the new crown and alfread herring. Alround rating: Fruity nuttyness off the malts, brawn ale malts are key, theres a decent amoutn of sulphury mineral content in here too. Not really my deal.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 berkshirejohn (2834) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - APR 22, 2009
Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Dark amber with a dense creamy head; grainy aroma; creamy texture with sweet, slightly sour, malts and some toffee; dry finish. Very mediocre, surely they could do better than this, it’s not even a good copy of their usual keg cr*p.
