2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
500ml bottle (Sainsbury’s)
I’ll fess up in advance that, being John Smiths/S&N/Heineken, I wanted this to be bad - however, I was pleasantly surprised. I suspect that others’ low ratings are based on the same prejudice that I initially had. Do a blind tasting, prove me wrong. Dark reddy brown, small off-white head. Sweet burnt caramelly aroma. Sweet caramelly taste, burnt, slightly astringent nuttiness. Sweetish burnt finish. Too caramelly.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Brownish beer with a reasonable head. The aroma is lightly roasted, and the flavour is hopped, roasted, bitter and slightly creamy. Overall an average beer.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. A dark brown colour with a thin white head. Not much aroma, and the taste is sweet with a bitter finish. The beer is drinkable, but would not buy any more.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottled, pasteurised, 500ml from Morrisons, Banbury. Chestnut, carbonated with dull head. I donít know, you launch a new beer into the supermarkets, not a cheap thing to do these days, the package looks fine, you buy your shelf space and then you deliver a product that is as poor as the rest of your range, surely the Headbrewer (if there is such a thing in these breweries now) has some pride. Cardboardy, adjuncty, some malt, caramel as a filler. Itís not good and thats a real shame.
