JdoubleyouS (82), Erie, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 6, 2005 Golden colored with thin head. medium carbonation. Drecently hoppy beer with a good finish, not my favorite of the JBC’s but good none the less. Nate (2195), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 24, 2005 Light grain aroma, no malt, bit of graininess, and mild hop notes. Mild yellow gold clear with thin white head. Light medium body with mild-medium carbonation. Mild acidity throughout and mild grainy malt. Light hop notes with soft bitterness at finish. Nice mild style and should attract new microbrew drinkers. FROTHINGSLOSH (1448), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 11, 2004 Updated: May 20, 2006My first trip to the JBC. The draft came and on I proceeded to try the Dam beer. All I can say is that is really lived up to the name. While the appearance was a decently pretty honey brown color, and the aroma was faintly sweet, there is little more than I can say that I liked about this beer. There was a mild hint of hops on the front taste but macro skunk elements bleed into the aftertaste and lingered annoyingly on the tongue. The mouthfeel was thin and watery, which was a feature at this brewery as far as I could tell. My god they labeled this one as a Kolsch. Blasphemy. This beer is many things (few of them good), but not at all a Kolsch. Only with reluctance was I able to put this poor creature out of it’s dam misery. zach8270 (1404), Henrietta, New York, USA Jun 6, 2004 Updated: Jul 15, 2004(draft @ 10th Annual PA Microbrewers Fest, Pennsylvania Brewing Co. - Pittsburgh, PA) Poured a deep orange color with a very thin head. Faint aroma mainly of hops and some malt. Initial flowery hop taste with a nice, smooth malt balance and a good bitter finish with a zest of pepper at the very end. My first kölsh. It was interesting. Now I must seek out others to compare. Probiere (992), Iowa, USA Mar 26, 2004 Updated: Dec 6, 2004The description is further proof that either the brewer or the webmaster didn’t give a shit about misrepresentation. I was told by the server and owner that this was a koelsch. This beer stands head and shoulders above the others in their lineup. It has a clear and assertive hop profile, running the gamut from citrus to floral to herbs and back before disappearing with a bitter note excellently balanced against a solid malt backdrop. I would have another but I can only take so many hops in one night.
Update: It was better before. Filtered and the hop profile is ultra-bland now. New score: 3.5
