When introspection fails, it’s time to look outward for inspiration, perhaps Northward! One of the people who inspired me this past year is my friend Gabe Fletcher, of Anchorage Brewing Co. We brewed this beer together. I hope it inspires you. Northward!

Had on tap at the brewery. Pours a refreshing looking dull orange with an agressive foamy head. Had quite a tart funk smell. A very unique taste. Very peppery. Leaves a hop tingle on the tongue. Paired well with my truffle fries and mussels. Good stuff as usual from this local brewery.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Alexey’s place. Blend #3, bottled 4/14. Hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of earth, funk, grapefruit, spice, a bit of lacto and some fruitiness. Sourish flavor, funky, grapefruity, bitterish, with a bit of spiciness. Really nice.

Cloudy and pale. Thin head. Aroma is classic jp, full of brett, and quite woody. Sweet front, peach, pepper and sweet pale malts. Brett, wood, and a blast of pepper and more brett. Nice. Very drinkable.

750 ml. bottle sampled. Bottled on 22/04/2014. Batch #3. Purchased @ Bierhalle Deconinck. Light golden, small white. Nose is very basic, USA mop-like brett, apple sour, lightly lactic, touch dirty, citrus peel & juice, basic oak,… Very simple & basic USA sour, same counts for the taste. Rather empty, mild apple, faintly cider-like almost, typical USA mop-like brett, light grapefruit peel bitterness in the back, citrus juice, basic oak, mild funk,… Lower carbonation & touch watery. Okay but as basic as USA sours come, spend too much money on this. Label is great ‘though. Honestly the reason why I bought this was because I didn’t read the label & assumed that this would be a pumpkin sour. Bummer.

Pours clear blonde. Small white head fased fast. Smell is Sour apples. Taste is sharp, slightly sour, but very blank and hollow. Bit sweet, fruity in the aftertaste. I dont know... I’m not convinced...

Bottle, batch 3, enjoyed one year after bottling. Pours yellow, with a big creamy head. Aroma is tart with yeast and lactic acid, as well as apples, citrus and pepper. Medium to full body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is tart with yeast, lactic acid, unripe fruits and grass, wooden brett, as well as citrusy hoppy notes of grapefruit with a lingering bitter finish.

750, capped. Thanks, J! Pours a cloudy pale gold with a loose and sudsy whitish head. Egg yolks and mineral dryness on the nose. Creamy medium body with lively carb. almost prickly. Mid palate shows lots of mineral notes and some soft sweet wet grass notes. Clean dry finish. Very nice.

Hazy orangish yellow pour with a big fluffy white head. Citrus nose, hints of flowers. Hoppy and bitter at the beginning, moving to a little funk and oak. Slightly tart. Yummy.
