When introspection fails, it’s time to look outward for inspiration, perhaps Northward! One of the people who inspired me this past year is my friend Gabe Fletcher, of Anchorage Brewing Co. We brewed this beer together. I hope it inspires you. Northward!

A fascinating beer, really great aroma reminiscent of grapefruit juice with a nice acidity but also a sort of brett C funkiness. Taste has light grapefruit juice sweetness without really any of the sort of acidity I expected from the nose, more of a rural farmhouse character. One of the best beers I’ve had from either brewery, honestly.

Hazy orangish yellow pour with a big fluffy white head. Citrus nose, hints of flowers. Hoppy and bitter at the beginning, moving to a little funk and oak. Slightly tart. Yummy.

Pours hazy gold with a white head. Aromas of grapefruit, citrus candy, tangerine, lemon peel, pepper, wild yeast, and a bit floral. Taste is juicy grapefruit, wild yeast, bit of pepper, slight sweetness, and slight citric tartness. Light pithy bitterness, juicy medium body, fluffy carb. Delicious.

volcano gusher. ongoing. foam just keep coming out. clear yellow, smooth white head. dry yeasty and citrussy aroma, faint soapy, wild yeasty malty. flavor is herbal, citrussy, tea, green leafed vegetables, wild yeast, honey. quite complex wild ale, and lots of nuances, however, i could use some more refinement and finesse - the style and presentation (volcano gusher that never stops) reminds me of fantome. Chances are, you have never tasted a beer quite like this before.

This was quite tasty. Some funk that for some reason my wife didn’t like so I got the whole bottle. Yay. I’ll certainly buy the other version if I find it.

750 mL bottle shared at a tasting. Murky orange, thin creamy white head, good retention. Aroma of mild funk, stone fruit, pepper, citrus. The taste is tropical fruits, dry citrus zest, bready malt, mild funk. Medium bodied, lingering funk, low carb, mild lingering fruit. Very nice.

Pours a hazy yellow. Thick white head holds strong for a while. Funk Funk Funky aroma! Dank, body odor, lemon and did I mention funk! Taste of sour apricot, banana, a hint of spice and a nice almost creamy mouth feel round out the beer. As the beer warms the grapefruit becomes very apparent. The grapefruit lingers on the palate. Very good sour. Nice and funky.

Light gushing to huge, very dense, slightly yellowish, slowly collapsing head over hazy yellow-orange beer, finely carbonated. Citrus, yeast, Brett and/or other wild yeast, wild fruit, frying oil. Intense citrus, citruspeel, wild yeast; something meaty/oily: lots of esters and fusels. Bit dusty, and floormop variety included; soapy. Generally quite fruity character. Slick, bit burning - ’hot’ MF, medium bodied. Why do they all taste so similar, these USA wild ales?

Fra flaske på Mandag i annen, Cardinal mars-15: antydning til gusher, men skummet legger seg fort i glasset. "Oak barrel aged & bottle conditiones ale brewed with grapefruit peel, juice and peppercorns" iflg etiketten. Og grapefruktsmaken er behagelig til stede hele veien, på en mild måte. En nydelig surøl, balansert oig behagelig med passe bitterhet i ettersmaken.
