couchand (182), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Mar 17, 2008 Beautiful thick head, though quickly disappearing. Some remains much later still.
Fruity, noble and brett nose.
Barely sour. Spicy! hombrepalo (726), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 14, 2008 From the bottle. poured a cloudy golden with a huge fluffy white head. aroma a nice blend sweet spices with some lightly sour citrus fruit a small amount of hops pops out and a nice hit of yeast and pepper. flavor the sourness comes out first, followed by citrus and the pepper, lemon. after working around the house all day this was a nice refreshing beer to wind down with.
jspruit (111), Dublin, Ireland Mar 12, 2008 I was hoping for alot from this beer, and it was overall pretty good, but I think that I may have left this one a bit too long before trying.
Pours a orangish haze with a 2 finger white head that stuck around for quite a bit and then turned into some nice lacing as it went down.
Nice citrus scents hit your nose right away upon opening that is backed up with some yeasty notes.
Flavors are pretty citrusy and yeasty too. There is some tartness-but I think that is because I may have left it for too long.
There’s alot of carbonation overall in the beer, but the it isn’t too full and the body is nice and light.
I could drink more of this in one sitting I think so I’ll definitely try it again if I get the chance. GJF (480), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA Mar 8, 2008 I like this brewery, but this beer just didn’t do it for me. Far too sparkling wine in the carbonation, and a sourness that wasn’t quite balanced with the malt. A decent beer, but not what a great farmhouse. brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Mar 5, 2008 Pours cloudy gold with a massive, sponge-like head of at least four inches of height.
After several minutes of settling, the rocky foam receded to the surface, and revealed a cone-like center of dense white froth, and and an outer ring of medium bubbles.
Lacework filled with large-webbed strings clung the walls of the glass.
Aromatics are mostly tart and lemony, with some light spicing and funk. The trademark Jolly Pumpkin lactic profile is dominant, and laced with lemon pith and vinegar-spritzed hay.
The mouthfeel is dry and lively, quenching and lightly puckering.
The pallet is slightly sour and earthy. Fouled citrus fruits and grassy tannins make the beer quite unique. Phenols are prevalent, as a warming clove presense comes forward as well as pepper-spiked bannana skins.
Finishes drying and bitter, with lingering tannins and a hint of cedar.
As with most of the other JP beers, plenty unique and "wild", but lacking a cohesion of qualities that make a beer extremely drinkable at the same time.
surffisher (194), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Mar 2, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy straw color with a temporary, coarse, bone white head. Aroma is dominantly citrusy, with some peppery phenolics, rose flowers, and sour funk. Flavor seems a bit bland, especially compared with the aroma; perhaps the tartness upfront is occluding some of its nuances. Watery and softly malty, with some non-descript citrus character, and peppery spice. Balances dry. Light bodied with moderately high carbonation and an ABV that is rather low for the style. This one’s okay, but kind of a snoozer flavor-wise...just not much happening. Decent lawnmower beer. Davinci (295), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 29, 2008 Pours a slightly haxy pale yellow color. Good stream of bubbles through center of large Duvel type glass. Nice sour aroma, somewhat grassy, vinegar and grapes. Some lemon tartness up front followed by a low soft bitter. Soft grapes, leather and grass on the tongue. Finish is dry and grassy. Not my favorite... maybe it needs to age a bit? gotbeach (128), San Diego, California, USA Feb 29, 2008 Bottle from PP bottle store from a goldtwins recomendation....and a good recomendation indeed. Pours yellow/clear with a long lasting white head. Sour, yeast, fruit, spice, all balanced and refreshing!
