MmmcKay (269), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA Sep 8, 2009 Hazy yellow pour. Smells sour. Farmhouse funk alert. Not a lot of pumpkin like I expected. Tastes clean. Yeasty, spicy hops, wine like fruit flavors. Italian Pinot Grigio or Orvieto flavors. Good stuff. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Sep 8, 2009 12oz sampled at Butters’ 1500 / MmmcKay’s 200 tasting. Pours a semi hazy gold with great white head. Nose of classic saison funk. Flavor is clean and crisp but lemon sol. Very good for style. Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Sep 8, 2009 Pours a fizzy head in a lasting ring with a hazy, deep straw color body. Aromas of yeast, zest, grass. Flavor is the same. Moderately tart finish. Clean. alagnak (296), Littleton, Colorado, USA Sep 7, 2009 750ml Batch 280/281 from theisti. Aroma is heavy brett funk, some earth, clove and peppery lemon zest. Taste is the brett and tart sourness upfront fading to just a superb meld of citrus, peppery spice and a nice hoppiness leading to a dry finish. Flavors are more earthy/woodsy as it warms, and all around just a fantastically constructed beer. This 750 didn’t last long and I was wishing I had another. Awesome stuff. Thanks, Tim. biskin (3), New York, USA does not count Sep 7, 2009 Full, fun, foamy white head first out of the bottle. Smooth, authentically sincere. Citrus and straw overtones, but then bitter. Beautiful looking with lively but not fizzy carbonation. lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 1, 2009 Batch 324/325. Lightly hazy, yellow orange, with a puffy white foam. Lovely spicy, fruity aroma, funky. Taste is lively, funky bretty mustiness, fruits, white grapes, apples, peaches, then a nice hop and yeast spicy finish. Drink4Satan (585), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Aug 16, 2009 Pours a glowing transluscent gold with a puffy, lasting white head. The nose has funk on the level of some weaker sour ales, with citric and herbal hop notes, as well as some musty/earthy tones. The flavour, while unsupported by a very thin palate (even for a saison), is very well hopped, with strong herbal and grassy impressions that fade into flavors of lemon rind and subdued earthy funk. The finish is very short and dry, cutting out very quickly, which makes it a real quencher. Mid palate, the beer tastes a bit soapy, but aside from that and the watery finish, this is a pleasant tasting, quality session brew. I would definitely recommend this to fans of the style. basewars (144), Albany, New York, USA Aug 16, 2009 Pours hay golden with tight head and plenty of lacing. Aroma is clearly funky with mustard and lemon scents. Light on the palate. Flavor is tart but smooths as it warms into a nice sour apple flavor. Very nice.
