jlf278 (252), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Feb 28, 2008 12 oz. bottle pours with never-ending frothy head that condenses almost into whipped cream consistency. The aroma is decidedly fresh cut grass and hay with some earthy notes. Flavor is just a bit sour, adding character and depth to a solid farmhouse ale. The palate is light and bubbly as expected. Overall, very well executed. Miver (551), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 27, 2008 12 oz bottle. Poured hazy gold in color with a medium sized white head. Aroma is very earthy with hints of citrus and spice. Taste is yeasty with mild citrus, spices, grass, and earthy. Not as tart as I was hoping for. This bottle was fresh and I’d like to rerate after I try an older bottle. WeeHeavySD (2941), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Feb 26, 2008 750 ml bottle I’m guessing via trade and because of its location in my cellar and the fact that I forgot I had this and almost bought a bottle the other night and they were sold out so I’m glad that I didn’t buy it. So how about that for some stream of conciousnes rating. Shared with my girlfriend Cyn. Gusher alert, this thing gushed and I poured it and it gushed some more holy gushers batman. Pours orangish yellow with a 3 finger fuzzy mountain head. Nose is very yeasty. Taste is sweet, very very lightly spiced. Also its pretty mellow and decent. Not the best by any means from JP, but good. douglas88 (1557), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Feb 25, 2008 Bottle. Pours...no explodes, I mean it, be careful this one jumped out of the bottle. A massive off-white head with a cloudy golden color. The aroma is spices, citrus and some funk. The taste is similar; some light funk, citrus and a bunch of spices. grandet (477), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 24, 2008 Bottle. Nice golden pour with a fluffy white head. Spices and fruit dominate the smell. the taste is very light and refreshing, with some citrus and spice through out. Very good. . RealAleDave (45), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Feb 23, 2008 Clear bright gold with an extremely fine, rocky bright white head that sits and stays throughout the pint leaving nice lacing.
Incredibly complex nose of sour citrus and peppery, clovey spiciness. Malt lurks underneath providing crackery support. Amazing nose.
Razor sharp sourness leads the palate, slicing through crisp maltiness. The spicy yeast notes run rampant, but perhaps outweigh the malt leading to a bit of an imbalance, but this is still really, really good.
Microscopic carbonation washes everything away a bit quickly, but makes this beer an outstanding companion to spicier foods. The palate may not quite live up to the nose, but I can’t think of many beers that could. ditmier (1023), Boise, Idaho, USA Feb 23, 2008 2007 Bottle - Foamed out the top the second I opened it... very high Co2 and a great nose. I got a ton of yeast and grain, very little hop, nice Saison overall. Would be much nicer in the summer after mowing the lawn, but I agree that @ 4.5%, way more to offer than I expected. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Feb 22, 2008 Poured into a pint glass, since I didn’t have a tulip on hand. Monstrous, rocky head that sticks around forever, both on top of the body and on the glass. The beer is a pale gold color and the head is eggshell.
Aroma is very gueuze-like. Tartness is the only note here, but it’s very appealing.
Taste is halfway between Girardin 1882 and Fantome Saison. The sourness is toned down, and there’s a touch of grassy hops in the finish.
A little overcarbonated, nice medium-light body, dry finish. Quite quaffable.
