Pours a yellow color with an enormous head that is pillowy and actually has strange mini globe like shapes in the head. Smells lemony and sour. Tastes aweful! Something like a petting zoo floor on the tongue. It is sour and funky and has an offensive spice. No thank you, drain pour! swoopjones (1897), Buffalo, New York, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 18, 2007 Updated: Jan 1, 2008bottle. pours a hazy honey gold with a sizable white head that lingers and leaves big lacing throughout. smell is sort of lemon pine with a hint of sour apple and some musty funky stuff. different from what i normally drink for sure. taste is kind of woody with those funky notes from the nose and finishes with a bit of sharp pine sol. palate is tart, with a touch of sweetness, a good bit of sour, and some hop bitterness that kind of caught me off guard. medium to light in body and fairly heavily carbonated for a good bubbly mouthfeel. definitely different. it may take some getting used to.
re-rate: it did take some getting use to, and now i’ve gotten used to it. strangely, the description is about the same, but the scores are slightly higher. let’s change my description of the taste to lemon, funk, some floral hops, and a bit of spicy honey malt, and call it a wash. as with other jolly pumpkin beers i’ve had, this is extremely quenching, and works exceptionally as a final beer of the night. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 17, 2007 The color was light golden. The head was thin, creamy, and white. The aroma had a funkyness to it. It smelled similar to a flemish sour ale with earthyness. The flavor was sour/tart and earthy. The palat was average. The finish had a little bitterness to it. emacgee (1864), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 17, 2007 Pours a pale hazy soft gold with a one finger creamy white head. Nice carbonation. The aroma is sweet mandarin orange peel, spices, light funk, . The flavor is spicy, funky, citrus peel, tangy. Biting carbonation, but full mouthfeel. Different aspects of the flavor last longer in the mouth. The spicy tangy is more present at first giving way to pepper, then warm mandarin orange. golubj (1286), Sunnyvale, California, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 13, 2007 Bottle obtained from HogTownHarry. Hazy golden-yellow with a huge pillowy white head. Aroma and flavour of citrus, tropical fruit (esp. pineapple), yeast, pepper, wood, a slight funkiness, and herbal hops. A great example of one of my favourite styles. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 12, 2007 The appearance was Just like the commerical description, golden and cloudy: it looks good in the glass. The aroma was very citrus, but the hops are also strong. The favor was surprising refreshing and reminded me more a wheat beer then it did an ale. The finish did show signs of an ale, but didn’t end very dry. A nice beer, very unique, but not an ale in the truest sense. Cheers.
