wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA May 20, 2007 Hazy orange color. Nice lacing. A little funk smell. A little sour (which is nice, when it should be there). Good, but not my favorite, because of this style. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA May 19, 2007 12-oz. bottle purchased at Liquor Max. Pours hazy yellow with a creamy-frothy white head, completely lasting, fair lacing. Aroma is average malt (hay, straw, bread), average hops (grass, flowers), average yeast (barnyard, earth) with notes of apple, pear and dust. Light bodied, thin texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness; citrus rind bitterness, earthy yeast and light bread malt notes. Bartzilla (441), San Diego, California, USA May 19, 2007 Very nice. Fresh, slightly sour and spicy. Par for the course for Jolly Pumpkin and their unique ales. One of their more accessible ales for the uninitiated. I could go back to this ale often. IndianaRed (1553), Boise, Idaho, USA May 17, 2007 Bottle Poures a hazy gloden color with a modest white head that is maintained by the highly active effervesence. Aroma is a soft fruity woody medley. Nothing jumps out at me. Flavor is subtle and has some classic Pale Ale hop bitterness to it. Highly carbonated and a light body. Pleasant but not very memorable. Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA May 15, 2007 12oz bottle, servied in my Duvel tulip. Pours a golden, very cloudy body with a huge, pillowy white head. Almost soapy in appearance. Bubbly lacing clings to the glass. Was close to coming out of the bottle on it’s own. Carbonation bubbles are just rushing up from the bottom of the glass in furious fashion. Aromas of sour funk, yeast, spice, citrus rind, hops, dough. I smell something in there that my nubile nose cannot place, maybe a certain spice or hop. Five minutes later and the head is barely diminishing. It has a mind of it’s own. Finally got the whole thing in my glass. I’m giving it a 5 for appearance for being such a stubborn badass of a beer. OK, 10 minutes later and I can finally taste it. Fore is spicy, lightly astringent, hops, yeast, funk, Not as heavily carbonated as the appearance led me to believe. Back of the tongue keeps everything together nicely. Finish is spicy, biting, and long, with the yeast and hops doing the heavy lifting. Fades away to a nice sour taste in the back of the throat. A nice oily mouthfeel from the hops lingers as well. Very refreshing and crisp, would be perfect on a very hot day. Almost the perfect session beer. My favorite JP brew yet. Well done! skibumphishead (180), USA May 14, 2007 750 shared with Brie. The smell is very sour, hoppy, soapy, and earthy. The flavors are sour funk, grass, yeast, bread, and citrusy hops. The sour funk is dead on with the Belgians. Damn... this is the best american Saision that I have ever had. Cheers to Jolly Pumpkin!... I’m gonna go buy the other 3 that they have at the Spirit Haus. jzzbassman (838), New Albany, Mississippi, USA May 13, 2007 Hard to keep this one from gushing....once I got it in the glass it settled down to a nice aromatic saison. Funky barnyard, coriander, and lemon are all present, with a crisp refreshing finish. Would have scored this a little higher were it not for the gushing. mcbackus (725), Merritt Island, Florida, USA May 13, 2007 Updated: Jun 3, 2008botlle: pours a very hazy golden straw colour with a large white head.aroma is sour, fruity, and some yeast. flavour is spice, citrus hop, and a funky sour fruit. finishes nice and dry and leaves my palate wanting much more. this was a bit difficult for me to describe, but very easy for me to enjoy. one of the best ever session beers made. everyone should try this one.
