hoppymeal (38), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA Apr 17, 2007 Straw colored and hazy with a tight white head. First smells are perfumy, tart green apples, and then a light honey with a little spice. A lot going on in the aroma of this one. There is a slight sweetness first on the tongue which is followed by a lemony, grassy tartness with a bitter finish. The beer is crisp and refreshing and although this might not be something I choose for everyday drinking, Jolly Pumpkin has a very wide array of aromas and flavors built into this beer.
Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Apr 15, 2007 Updated: Aug 11, 2008The pour is thick and cloudy, dandelion yellow. Dried red apple and spice aromas lead - paprika and clove. Sundried tomato. Dusty mint leaf hops with a trace of citrus. Grassy, damp taste with a spicy, herbal sentiment. Sparkly, sprightly mouthfeel, distantly dry in the finish. A perfect balance of complexity and refreshment, fitting to satisfy any occasion. Outstanding. brstp (201), Princeton, New Jersey, USA Apr 14, 2007 Bottle from City Beer Store. Miller Lite color, but the slight haziness and creamy white head give it away. Beautiful aroma of belgian yeast, sour apple, a little dirt, lavender. Thin mouthfeel, fruity, smooth, a little more bitter than I was expecting but not unpleasantly so. Made my ears perk up a little. demitriustown (689), Shelby Township, Michigan, USA Apr 13, 2007 12 oz bottle: A wonderful sour apple aroma at first. a wonderful floral aromatic to the scent, herbs, and almost a white wine aroma to it too. Very interesting aroma to say the least. Pours a cloudy orangeish/yellow with a rocky white head that lingers. Flavor is I can tell that the yeast is in there. with a fruity smoothness that is quite sessionable. nicely spiced and overall a thirst quenching beer, I really like this Jolly Pumpkin beer. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 13, 2007 Updated: Dec 10, 2007Hazy golden color with a big cakey head. Aroma is musty, spicy, and sweet with some sweet fruits, yeast, and earthen scents detectable. Taste is a complex mix of sweet & bitter fruits, yeast, earthy malt flavors, and some light spices. Another good JP beer. 12/8/07 - Just bought another case of this and found the latest batch to be even better - nearly a "9" in taste as the sourness is more pronounced and pleasant. Greater sour-citrus aroma that really appetizes. Oh, and its still only 4.5%ABV so I can have one (or perhaps two?) with lunch or dinner without feeling any effects. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Apr 12, 2007 enjoyed this bottle at American Flatbread. Hazy orange in color. Very fruity aroma- peach, apricot, light citrus, and spices. Taste is very fruity, again with notes of mango, peach, and alot of spices, yeast funk and lightly bready. Dry and lightly bitter and spicy in the finish. HumuloneRed (750), Portland, Oregon, USA Apr 11, 2007 Transported back from Portland, OR. 12oz. Bottle. It pours a cloudy white peach color with a frothy white head and sticky lacing. The nose is filled with apricot, tangerine, and peach with a sour barnyard sourness. . Those flavors plus a woody sour taste that leaves a tannic mouth feel. I really like this beer and think it is well made but I can see how it might turn some people off. Optigon (561), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Apr 11, 2007 Light aroma of cinnamon and spices. Pours lightly cloudy, light orange. Very little head. Relatively thin mouth feel. Good pumpkin-beer like flavors.
