1.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 chinchill (580) - South Carolina, USA - APR 15, 2013
From a 750 ml bottle (bottled 12-28-10) into a snifter. It looks like unfiltered apple cider, but with a fluffy, off-white head. About 1.5cm of sediment-loaded liquid was left in the bottle.
Smell: Wild yeast with a bit of a brett. Slightly sour and floral.
Taste: mild for style, with lingering Brett and wild yeast, leather, earthy hops and some lemon. Mildly sour and fruity.
M; Light body; semi-dry; tart.
O: rather mild flavor; not a bad thing for the Brett component. Bretty/earthy/funky beers your kind of thing? ... then this one’s for you.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Foffern (732) - Bodø, NORWAY - APR 9, 2013
Bottle at home. Pours a hazy old gold colour with a white medium head. Fruity and sour aroma of hay, rowanberries, vinegar, Belgian yeast and oak. Lots of the same in the flavour with the addition of citrus, and feels venous. Sour and fresh, and with a dry ending. Is rich and slick in the mouth, and has a light bitterness. Delicious and fresh, and good with food.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 gonzosauce (133) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - MAR 14, 2013
Editing my rating with a 2yr old bottle. And holy hell get one of these and forget about it for a good while. All the better qualities of sour beer, and far less of the odd ones. Compared to Oro, a Jolly that starts very sour without the age, and has won ’best of’ for its style.. the 2yr Bam blew away a 1yr Oro drank on the same night (which is incredible in its own right). Seemingly freshly extra tart and expanding on the tongue, with perfect aggression against the taste buds and wonderful, fluid mellowing as it slides over the palate and into a grin-inspiring aftertaste. Bam was one I wasn’t sure would age so incredibly (particularly in comparison to other Jollys you KNOW will age well). But damn, one of the better beers I’ve drank in a good bit. I’ll be grabbin up a few more specifically to age. In truth: I would not give a fresh Bam nearly this high of a rating (probably closer to a 4)... but with age comes grace, wisdom, and knowledge. Or something like that.
