One of Bam's brown eyes is, in fact, black. When mischief reigns supreme, it positively glows. Dedicated to the dark side; smooth, dark, incredibly delicious as only a Jack Russell with bat wings can be.

Pour is dark mahogany with a thin dense tan head...smell is super tart and lacto with strong wood and some light funk...strongly tart...but not abrasively so...taste is funky and tart, but not a lot of other flavors...it is lacking the saison aspect...very one dimensional...lightly sweet...lightly medicinal finish...incredibly unique and definitely drinkable, but not what I had hoped for...

Bottle. Dirty brown pour, hazy with a lively, somewhat creamy head. Aroma of light vinous fruits, oak, a bit of barnyard, cherry, and pale malt. Flavors of tart fruits, dry malt, oak, and some brett qualities. Light body, tart/malty/woody with a tart/dry finish. Another nice brew from Jolly Pumpkin.

Thanks to Drew for this one. Dark purplish body along with a tall beige head. Sour and funky aroma shows some tart cherry and a light brown sugar character. Flavor is a bit watery and doesn’t improve as it warms as expected. It’s light, has some tart fruit, and a slight buttery quality on the back of the tongue in the finish. Light on the palate with an effervescent body.

dark brown appearance with huge white head. immediately has a sweet malt to it followed by a very dry and oakey finish. not a whole lot of flavor, a very subtle beer that is underwelming i suppose

Bottle batch 250 pours a clear dark ruby with a smallish head that fades to sufrace foam islands and ring. The second pour is much nicer looking with a much more structured head. The aroma is grape juice, cherries, sour, and slightly funky. The flavor is suprisingly understated, slightly funky, woody, good yeast flavors, and sour in the finish with a rather dry palate. As it warms, it really starts to shine and improve - leather and spice start to surface, more of the sour notes make themselves known, some of the underlying sweetness also gets a moment in the spotlight. Once again, this brewer rules.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2008 Bottle. Batch 256,257. Poured a dark body with nice head. Aroma is must, yeast and that wonderful Jolly Pumpkin funk. Flavor is slightly sour, chocolate, earthy. Light acidity and smooth body.

Blend #2 2007. Pours a slightly diluted cherry cola color with nice frothy white head, some lacing. Very similar bretty character as their other beers, perhaps a bit more pungent on the vinegar notes. Burns the nose just a touch in a good way. Bright sour/bitter onset, flavors of leather, earthy must, and funk galor. A woodyness sucks the moisture from your mouth like sucking on a cedar chip. Somewhat thin in the mouth feel. Lingering flavors of muscat and a woody dryness finish this one off. I really enjoyed this one.

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2012 Great sour smell and flavor. Dark brown color. Big, solid head. Fairly thin body. Another excellent saison from Jolly Pumpkin! More flavor than any 4.3% ABV beer that I have ever tried.

Bottle... Murky, dark, caramel-colored ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Great retention. The aroma is a complex blend of woodsy, earthy and lactic notes with a sweet malt background and a whisper of chocolate. Light to medium-bodied with a prickly mouthfeel. Slightly sweet and moderately pungent flavor. Earthy and woodsy with notes of darker malts and gentle acidity. Finishes tangy and crisp. Bottle courtesy of CaptainCougar!

750ml bottle, Batch 250. This one pours a dark, translucent, reddish-sienna brown color. A medium sized, foamy, cream colored head settles to a thin, murky blanket, leaving random spots and flares of lacing scaterred about the glass. The aroma, in typical Jolly Pumpkin fashion, shows a pervasive, dry, funky farmhouse yeast. In this incarnation of Bam, however, the funk is subdued considerably by soft notes of leather, light caramel malts, cocoa, and vinous dark fruits. Oak is of course present, as it is in seemingly all of JP’s beers. Flavors are crisp and distinct, running the gamut from sour grape to biting, harsh, oaky yeast. Still, there is a forgiving fruity softness that really makes this one highly drinkable. The mouthfeel is medium in stature and very dry. Residual raison notes linger on the tongue, and remind you that you’re only one glass in to this sessionable beauty. This is an excellent effort, and easily one of my favorite JP beers.
