Unusually. Seriously funky nose. Very dark, foamy tan head. What is this? A black lambic? A black saison? Mild sweet fruit, like strawberry juice, a baby Flemish sour or a baby Rodenbach Grand Cru? Hints of sweet cocoa, danced on by lactic acid? Not much intensity. A bonus point for this much flavor in a beer under 5%, but a minus for the absurd price.

Pours blackish-purple with thick white head... very attractive. Pungent, spicy aroma of berries, cloves, sour apple, citrus, yeast, assorted dark fruit. Flavor is a letdown, however. Some sourness, some oak, some musty yeast, and some out-of-place lactose-water blandness. Didnít have real high expectations for this one, and it got my hopes up with its great aroma and wonderful appearance. Alas, the flavor extremely meek.

750 ml Bottle courtesy myself. Wanted to share it, but had no takers. Their loss. Pours blackish red with a thick yeasty white head. Yeasty, sour, fruit aroma. Apple sour, citrus, yeast, malt taste with a nice medium body. Very tasty and the low abv made it easy to drink the whole bottle.

750ml bottle thanks to tytoanderso. Pours a hazy amber with a creamy off-white head that laces down in patches. Sour nose. Strong notes of oak, yeast, apples, barnyard, and cheese. I could sniff this for a while. Sweet and tart flavors start with an earthy, woody, leathery note. Rotten apples and browning fruit follow, but it all disappears to quick to leave a watery earthy note that lingers on the back of my tongue. Overall the flavors come off as a little watery and Iím wondering why JP beers seem to be a little less flavorful lately. I hope these yeasts havenít been overused because I love this strain of brett and Iíll always be happy to take another version of Bam.

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2008 Bottle, courtesy Tony at Oldsmar Tap House. Pours a dark brown with red highlights. Minimal white head, but good spotty lacing. Aroma is a tart, roasted flavor. Very interesting. Has a malty texture. Flavor is fairly tart, with a spicy body. Barnyard feel, cider. Roasted finish. Quite drinkable.

Bottle from nolankowal. Thick mixed bubble head that lingers on and on. Dark amber liquid. Some interesting aroma, that i want to say is either brett, corriander, or just from the yeast at high temperatures. Easy to drink.

Dark reddish brown pour with a a frothy, 1 finger, off-white head. Aroma is orange, apple, cinnamon, caramel, wet wood. Flavor is pepper, mixed fruit, tart sour apple. The finish is dry, thin and watery with a lingering damp wood note. Medium thin body with lots of carbonation.

750 ml bottle from Pizza Portís bottle shop. For some weird reason, the aroma of this brew smells like canned tuna or a tuna salad and thatís not very appetizing to start it off with. The appearance is a tea brown with a creamy layer of film gently sitting on top. In the flavor a weak and light presence of yeast is detected with watered down taste of malt. Aftertaste is empty and strange and overall I was unsatisfied with my experience with this ale.

Pour from a 750ml bottle - Blend of batches 262 & 263. Darker brown with a reddish tint and a slightly foamy off-white head. Aroma has that great Bam sour/funk/earth/yeast going on with some light oak. Flavor has some nice woodiness to go with the standard yeasty/acidic/sour Bam Bier taste. Oak is subtle but makes this beer smooth and tasty. Nice mouthfeel. Maybe a notch below the regular Bam, but still a masterpiece. How this much goodness can be packed into a sub 5% ABV beer is beyond me. Brilliant!

Deep red brown with lots of off-white head billowing forth. Aroma: hints of fruit mixed with some freshly cut wood but overall really understated. Flavor: Juuuust a bit of cherry mixed in with a lot more bitterness than tartness. ..really good beer but I was hoping for a bit more sweetness mixed with the tart. Much more bitter/burnt tasting than I was expecting. Lots of points though for doing something different with beer and showing that experimentation does work. Me gusta.
